Eagles trade two-time Pro Bowler Cam Jurgens to Ravens for draft picks

Cam Jurgens is no longer the Eagles’ problem.

Jurgens, the two-time Pro Bowl center who is having a miserable season, is now a Raven.

The Eagles announced Wednesday that they traded Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Ravens for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.

“We weren’t looking to move Cam,” general manager Howie Roseman said. “Obviously, the Ravens had been looking for a center. They lost three centers. I speak to Eric [DeCosta, Ravens GM] a lot. Originally, kind of told him it wasn’t anything we were looking to do. Over the last 24 hours it got to the point where we felt like it could be a win-win for them obviously getting a player who was a two-time Pro Bowl center for us.

“And for us, being able to get the picks we were able to get and use that money also to sign players. Had a chance to watch Drew [Kendall] here play center. He’s doing a nice job, have a young player there. I think for us, when you talk about the 2 and the 5 and going from the 7 to the 5th, we’ve had success in the 5th round. Plus, the money, plus Drew playing, we felt like we were getting four players for one. We just felt like for us with all of these guys that we’ve got coming up, a lot on the defensive side of the ball we want to re-sign and extend, felt like that was a good situation for us.”

Jurgens, 26, was the Eagles’ second-round pick in 2022. He was a backup as a rookie, started at right guard in 2023, then moved to center in 2024 after Jason Kelce retired. He made the Pro Bowl after the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

But he has battled injuries the last couple years, went to Columbia for stem-cell treatments this offseason and has struggled this year, both in the opener at center and the last three games at left guard.

Out of 67 guards who have played at least 100 snaps this year, his Pro Football Focus grade of 38.7 is the lowest.

When left guard Landon Dickerson went on Injured Reserve after the opener, Jurgens moved to left guard and Drew Kendall took over at center. He has played well in his three starts and it became clear he was the Eagles’ center of the future. With Dickerson, a three-time Pro Bowl guard, eligible to play a week from Sunday against the Panthers, Jurgens appeared to be the odd man out on a restructured Eagles offensive line.

With Dickerson still on IR, Willie Lampkin is expected to start at left guard against the Jaguars Sunday in London. But the permanent offensive line, if all goes well, will be Jordan Mailata at left tackle, Dickerson at left guard, Kendall at center, Tyler Steen at right guard and rookie 3rd-round pick Markel Bell at right tackle.

Jurgens is the second multiple Pro Bowl offensive lineman who has left the organization in two days. Six-time Pro Bowl right tackle announced his immediate retirement on Tuesday.

Jurgens is the youngest Pro Bowler the Eagles have traded since Chip Kelly shipped 26-year-old LeSean McCoy to the Bills after the 2014 season. He’s also the first player since McCoy the Eagles have traded the year after he made the Pro Bowl.

With Jurgens no longer in the picture, Lampkin and rookie 6th-round pick Micah Morris are the backup interior linemen. Undrafted Jake Majors had a solid summer and is on the practice squad for a second straight year. Interior lineman Kiran Amegadjie, a 3rd-round pick of the Bears two years ago, is also on the practice squad.

The only backup tackle is veteran Fred Johnson, with veteran John Ojukwu on the practice squad.

The Eagles announced the move just minutes after head coach Nick Sirianni finished speaking with the media, but he didn’t mention the deal.

He did speak in general terms about the state of the offensive line and how the team will approach all the moving parts up front.

“There’s no secret to that,” he said. “It takes walkthrough reps, it takes practice reps, it takes meeting time, and it takes purposeful steps. And that’s why every one of those things I just mentioned walkthrough, practice, meeting the time they spend together is so critical. And so there is no secret. It always takes work, and that’s what we intend to do.”

After the trade, the Eagles have single picks in the first, second and third rounds next year, three 5th-round picks and a 7th-rounder as well as a projected 3rd-round compensation pick for the loss of Jaelan Phillips. Thanks to the A.J. Brown trade, they have two 1st-round picks in 2028 as well as two 2nd-round picks now and single picks in the third through seventh rounds.

Jurgens, who is currently in concussion protocol, signed a four-year, $68 million contract in April 2025, and the $17 million average is fourth-highest among NFL centers.
