The University of Iowa Athletics Department has officially released its Week 5 depth chart as the Hawkeyes prepare for back-to-back marquee matchups, this time as the Ohio State Buckeyes invade Iowa City. Part of the news for Hawkeye fans is that Iowa appears to have escaped Ann Arbor without serious injuries, so the depth chart is staying relatively stable.
The running back room remains status quo with Kamari Moulton listed as the starter, and Xavier Williams as his backup. Braeden Jackson was the third running back who saw action against Michigan but is not listed on the depth chart. LJ Phillips was available for Saturday’s game but did not see any snaps and he also is not listed.
For the tight end room, DJ Vonnahme returns as the starter, with Addison Ostrenga and Zach Ortwerth backing him up. The three amigos make for a complimentary tandem of tight ends dependent upon the plays being called.
Strong safety Tyler Brown remains on the depth chart as the starter, even though he was clearly hobbled in the fourth quarter of last Saturday’s game. He has been dealing with nagging soft tissue / hamstring issues all fall. Otherwise, no one appeared injured or left the game against Michigan. We’ll have to stay tuned for when Kirk Speaks later this week to hear what breadcrumbs he might sprinkle our way in terms of the injury situation for the Hawks.
