Two weeks into the NFL season, Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker has stayed atop the mountain as the star of the football world after earning last year’s Super Bowl MVP award.
The NFL leader in yards from scrimmage (365) and rushing yards (290) has run rampant over the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts defenses in primetime. Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry is second in the NFL in rushing yards, with 72 fewer than Walker.
As strong as the offensive line has looked, Walker has produced a lot of yards himself. On Sunday night, he forced a career-high 15 missed tackles, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. His previous high came last week against Denver (14).
If those single-game totals sound like a lot, they are.
The 29 forced missed tackles lead all NFL players (heading into “Monday Night Football”) this season and are five more than any player has registered in NFL Pro’s statistical database through two weeks of an NFL season since at least 2018.
Not only was Walker one of the only modern NFL players to surpass 150 scrimmage yards in each of the first weeks of the season, but he also joined memorable Oklahoma and Detroit Lions running back Billy Sims as the only NFL players to ever begin their careers with a team surpassing 175 total yards in the first two games played there.
