Lions vs. Jets odds: Opening lines for Week 3 matchup

The Detroit Lions (1-1) are back inside the comfy confines of Ford Field in Week 3, welcoming coach Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets (1-1 back to town, and the folks over at FanDuel Sportsbook have set the opening betting line at Lions -7.5 points.

In 2025, Glenn stepped away from his defensive coordinator position with the Lions and accepted a head coaching position with the Jets, the team that drafted him in 1994. Unfortunately, his rookie season as head coach was rough, starting 0-7 before finishing 3-14.

Glenn opened the offseason by revamping his coaching staff, beginning with the firing of both offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks. Former head coach Frank Reich was hired as the Jets’ new offensive coordinator, and Brian Duker—who coached under Glenn with the Lions from 2021-23—was named the new defensive coordinator. Several other coaching positions were also overhauled to match the new coordinators.

The Jets were also aggressive with their roster, giving running back Breece Hall a contract extension, trading away quarterback Justin Fields, and acquiring quarterback Geno Smith, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, and defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat. In free agency, the Jets signed several new starters, including left guard Dylan Parham, EDGE Joseph Ossai, linebacker Demario Davis, defensive tackle David Onyemata, and safety David Belton. In the draft, the Jets used three first-round picks to acquire three more starters: EDGE David Bailey, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, and wide receiver Omar Cooper; they also snagged corner D’Angelo Ponds in the second round and defensive tackle Darrell Jackson in the fourth.

In Week 1, the Jets’ offseason moves looked like they paid off, as New York easily handled the Titans 23-10 in Tennessee. Then, in Week 2, the Jets and Packers traded blows in a defensive battle that opened up in the second half and eventually went to overtime. Glenn surprisingly had the Jets take the ball first in overtime, and when the offense went three-and-out, the Packers got the ball in great field position and easily kicked a field goal to secure the win.

Detroit’s defense has been struggling, but their offense has been putting up points in volume. And although the Jets’ defense looks like it could give the Lions problems, Vegas doesn’t seem to think it will be enough to affect this game.
