The NFC North may have just shifted violently.

Late in the fourth quarter of a tight game between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams scrambled to his left. And while trying to escape a defender, he collapsed to the ground, with no apparent contact causing the injury.

Williams could not put much pressure on his right leg and eventually had to be carted off the field.

While Williams wasn’t having a huge day against a fiesty Vikings defense, he is certainly a pivotal piece to what the Bears do on offense. Last week against the Carolina Panthers, Williams completed 21-of-29 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns—plus 10 rushes for 65 yards and two touchdowns. Behind Williams’ leadership, the Bears put up a league-high 59 points in Week 1.

Tyson Bagent replaced Williams in the game. Bagent has been with the Bears since going undrafted in 2023. In his career, he’s started four games, completing 66.4% of his passes for 917 yards (6.2 Y/A), three touchdowns and six interceptions. Chicago also has Case Keenum on their roster, though he was listed as inactive for Week 2.

When there is an update on Williams’ status, we’ll update this post.

UPDATE: The Bears have officially called it a hamstring injury:

UPDATE: Ben Johnson confirmed it’s a hamstring injury and says Williams is in good spirits. But they won’t know about the severity until Monday.
