Will Stein continues to experience plenty of memorable moments during his first season as Kentucky’s head coach, but Saturday’s 31-21 upset of No. 9 Texas A&M provided a moment that was about much more than football.
After the final whistle, Stein embraced his father, Matt, in a big hug as the two celebrated the Wildcats’ stunning road victory.
Matt Stein knows what it means to wear the Kentucky uniform. He played football for the Wildcats, and now, years later, he gets to watch his son lead the same program as its head coach.
As the two embraced, Matt could be seen hyping up his son and celebrating the massive victory alongside him.
It was a full-circle moment for the Stein family.
Will grew up with a connection to Kentucky Football through his father, and now he is the one leading the Wildcats on the sideline.
Saturday’s victory made the moment even more special.
Kentucky entered the game as a significant underdog against a ranked Texas A&M team, but Stein and the Wildcats went into College Station and came away with a 31-21 victory.
After the game, Stein also delivered a message that captured the mentality of his team. “We talk about being the eye of the storm… We are the fu**ing storm.”
For Stein, however, one of the most meaningful moments of the night may have come immediately after the game, when he got to celebrate the victory with the man who once played for Kentucky himself.
