Oscar Collazo’s jump to flyweight will have to wait.
The 105 lb titleholder suffered a rib injury in training ahead of his planned October 10 challenge against WBC and WBA flyweight titleholder Ricardo Sandoval, and the fight has been scrapped for now, according to Golden Boy.
The Golden Boy and Most Valuable Promotions co-promoted event will go on, as the main event between Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi, for the vacant WBA lightweight title, is still on.
“This is a fight I wanted deeply,” Collazo said in a statement. “As a boxer, I pushed for this matchup to happen because I wanted to face this challenge and because I know how much it means to everyone who has been waiting to see it. My team and I have worked with seriousness and commitment throughout this camp, preparing to the fullest to be ready for fight day.”
Collazo apologized to Sandoval and his team, and made clear he intends to reschedule the fight.
