The Kentucky Wildcats are preparing for a date with Texas A&M in College Station this Saturday, and it appears the defense could be getting an important piece back to help slow down Marcel Reed and the Aggies offense
During his Wednesday coaches show, head coach Will Stein announced that fifth-year linebacker Alex Afari is ready to roll, as he continues to gear up for the Aggies while working through his eligibility battle.
Afari logged three snaps in Week 1, then was surprisingly held out of last week’s loss to Alabama, despite Stein saying the plan was for the linebacker to play. So, we do have to take these comments with a grain of salt until we actually see Afari out on the field when Kentucky takes on the Aggies.
The defense has been quite impressive to start the season, and adding an experienced player like Afari to that unit will only help as SEC play ramps up. With a dynamic backfield in Reed and Ruben Owens, Jay Bateman will need big plays from his defense if they hope to pull off the upset. Afari adds that playmaking, plus the experience needed when headed into environments like the 12th Man.
