The Wisconsin Badgers have been without outside hitter Grace Egan for the past two weeks after beating the Florida Gators in a five-set match back on September 2nd.
Egan was presumed to be out with an injury, but there had surprisingly been no update on her status since that game, and she hadn’t been seen around the team in her recent games, raising speculation as to whether something had happened behind the scenes.
Well, the Badgers starter took to social media on Monday to announce that she has been dealing with a back injury suffered in that game, and will be taking some time away from the team to heal.
“I know a lot of you have been wondering where I’ve been lately so I wanted to share a little update,” Egan wrote in a message on Instagram. “I’m okay, I’m healing, and I’ve had to take some time away from the team to focus on my recovery and put myself in the best position to return as quickly as possible.
“After our home match against Florida I experienced a setback with my back and was in a lot of pain that took me away from the court. After a stressful day I was able to meet with the doctors at UW and was reassured that they are very optimistic about my recovery. I’ve been away from the team recently so I can give my body the time and attention it needs to heal. I’m not ready to put an exact date on my return just yet, but I’m working every day toward getting back on the court as soon as possible.”
Egan shared that her timetable to return is unclear, but she will look to return after a frightening situation following the injury. The outside hitter has dealt with injuries in the past, and she will now look to take her time with her recovery as the Badgers continue on without her for the foreseeable future.
“I will be back and I’m counting down the days,” Egan continued. “I’ve experienced my share of injuries but this brought a level of fear and stress I hadn’t experienced before. Through it all I’ve been reminded that God is with me even when I don’t understand His plan and I’m trusting Him throughout this process.
“Still… I know who I am. I’m not someone who shies away when things get hard. Every setback I’ve faced has made me stronger, and I truly believe I’ll come out of this healthier, better, and playing the best volleyball of my life. Right now I’m taking everything one day at a time and giving my recovery everything I have. I’m so thankful for my family, teammates, coaches, medical staff, and everyone who has reached out and supported me.
“And to Badger Nation your support means more than you know. Knowing you’re behind me gives me another reason to keep getting back up even on the hardest days. I cannot wait to be back in the Field House with you all. I’m keeping the comments off for now, but I’d still love to hear from you. If you’d like to leave me a note, there’s a link in my bio. I’ll do my best to read every single one. 💌 Thank you so much for being in my corner.”
