The announcement comes as Haiti’s education system continues to suffer from gang violence and displacement. UNICEF reported that more than 1,600 schools were closed during the 2024–2025 academic year, affecting about 240,000 students. Nearly 1.5 million children continue to face challenges accessing education in 2026.
