Junior hockey player Luke Dragusica, who plays for the Brampton Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League, is facing severe fan backlash and a lengthy suspension after one of the dirtiest hockey plays you will ever see.

The incident occurred late in a game on Friday night between the Steelheads and Oshawa Generals. With Brampton leading 3-0, Dragusica chased down Oshawa player Brady Blaseg and swung his stick, full force, at Blaseg’s head.

The stick made contact with both Blaseg’s face and head. He was immediately cut open and began bleeding from the incident.

Hockey World Speaks Out After Luke Dragusica Slash To Head In OHL Game

Dragusica quickly drew strong rebuke from across the hockey world.

One of the dirtiest plays in a long time in the OHL last night. Luke Dragusica slashes Brady Blaseg across the face, leaving him gushing blood on the ice. The kind of thing that merits a season-long suspension, or more,” Scott Wheeler of The Athletic wrote on X.

Disgusting. Firstly, I hope Blaseg is ok and has a full recovery both physically and mentally. Second – this suspension should be lengthy. I suspect it will,’ Jeff Marek of the Daily Faceoff stated.

On Saturday, the OHL officially weighed in.

Julian McKenzie of The Athletic reports that the play is “under review” by the league. Neither team issued a statement at the time of McKenzie’s report.

Dragusica, a left-handed defenseman, is in his third year in the OHL, and his second with the Steelheads. The 18-year-old has two assists in 15 games this season.
