Welcome back to Me and My Money, Metro’s series taking a peek into the nation’s wallets and bank accounts.

This week we meet manifesting money mentor Sharan Sammi, 44, who lives in Wolverhampton with husband Gursh, 47 and two children.

Sharan worked in banking for two decades, before changing direction to become a ‘money mindset and abundance mentor’. While some might think it sounds a little ‘woo woo’, her business — in which she teaches women how to ask the universe to make them rich — can pull in anything from £6,000 to £20,000 per month.

Hi Sharan, tell us about your relationship with money growing up.

I came from an Indian background. My mum and dad were liberal because they’d both had strict upbringings. Whilst I always got what I needed, and we didn’t have to worry about money, because both earned well, I was taught to appreciate what we had.

From an early age, my mum would talk to me about money, interest rates and saving and my dad would show me the accounts from his shop.

From the age of 16 I started working multiple jobs, including as a waitress, in telesales and cashier for HSBC, alongside my studies.

When did you learn about manifesting?

I’d used manifesting from childhood, entering competitions and believing I’d win, which I often did. Then aged 22, while working at National Australia Bank, I bought a self-development book ‘The Rules of Work’, by Richard Templar, for £9.99. It changed my life.

I learnt about the art of gratitude, affirmation and to emulate the person I wanted to become, so I started making a deliberate effort, turning up to work in a suit and with my hair up, and reading the Financial Times. People at work asked if I was going for a job interview at first, but when the management saw I was serious, I progressed.

Manifestation led me to promotions, relocations and huge salary increases. In one instance, after telling the Universe I wanted a promotion in Birmingham, I was thrilled to be offered one, with a pay rise from £22,000 to £36,000.

I had intentionally manifested it for myself, through self belief and confidence, and I was delighted.

In my spare time, I trained in coaching and healing so I could help other women be successful.

When did you turn manifestation into a career?

After returning to work from maternity leave with my second child in 2018, I realised I wasn’t happy.

I wanted to change my career path, but I didn’t feel confident enough to do it straight away.

In January 2020 I was made redundant and it was one of the best days of my life. I was offered a six-figure pay-out, which I used for various investments, as well as my own coaching and personal development. My husband took the day off work and we went out and bought a new television and a new super king size bed! It was a magical time for me and an important turning point. The redundancy gave me the push I needed to finally start out as a money manifestation mentor.

What is a money manifesting coach?

I ask my clients to consider where they are currently in their life and direct them to look at their relationship with themselves, which mirrors the relationship they have with money.

I help them build a dream budget, working to break down and heal any subconscious mental blocks they have around achieving more money, more confidence or more self-worth.

For example, if a client grew up hearing they couldn’t afford things in their family, this would have formed a ‘money block’. This belief from their childhood creates a ‘scarcity’ mindset in adulthood, where they don’t believe they can have or achieve more.

Through a variety of steps, in group or one-to-one sessions, sometimes including hypnosis and healing work,  I help them reach an ‘abundant’ mindset, where they believe they can have more and are empowered to achieve what they desire.

I coach them to form new positive beliefs, to create change.

What do you say to sceptics?

Sceptics say manifesting doesn’t work because they aren’t getting what they ask for, but I ask if they are living their dream life or instead dwelling on their lack of money, lack of relationship, lack of success.

I tell them ‘what you think about, you bring about’. Instead of manifesting positive things, they are focused on negativity and lack, so that’s what they receive. Often they have an ‘a-ha’ moment and then ask me to help them fix their mindset. Interestingly, manifestation is becoming more mainstream, there are fewer sceptics than five years ago.

What are your monthly incomings and outgoings?

I can earn anywhere between £6,000 and £20,000 a month from my money mindset manifesting and coaching business, it’s very varied. I have global clients and offer different types of coaching, from one-to-one, to group coaching, workshops or nine-step programmes and I can have up to 100 clients at a time.

From that, I invest £1,000, spend £1,000 on the mortgage and £208 on council tax. For water I pay £58 and energy I pay £210. I spend £75 for our phones and on transport. The internet costs £40 a month, television licence is £15 with another £15 for Netflix, £8.33 on Amazon Prime and £5 on Disney. Life insurance is £150 and work related expenses can be up to £740. Childcare is £478, including their extra curriculum activities and piano lessons, and groceries cost around £250 a month. I put £1,000 into a holiday fun account and we can spend up to £600 a month on takeaways and eating out, we like doing that. I feel life is what you make it and I want to live my best life and create wonderful experiences and memories to cherish in years to come.

Splurge or save?

Both. With the money I earn, I invest in premium bonds, savings accounts or shares. With the money accumulated from these investments, I splurge on eating out with the family, days out going bowling or rock-climbing, trips to the cinema or theatre, going on holiday and special treats for my family.

Top money tip?

Work on improving your self belief, self-worth and confidence levels and your relationship with money will change.

I believe ‘energy goes where attention flows’. For example, focusing on creating a positive attitude to money will empower you to manifest more money, which will then help you live the lifestyle you desire.

Biggest challenge?

Believing I had to work very hard for money. So many of us have this limiting belief pre-programmed into us from such a young age, mainly from our own parents and society. I worked hard in education and then at the bank, but I realised it was to the detriment of my quality of life. Long work hours left me burnt out and unable to spend quality time with my family or friends.

Instead I changed my life by switching my mentality from working hard for money, to working smarter and making my money work hard for me instead.

How do you think your financial mindset has rubbed off on your children?

My husband and I both run our own businesses and are very conscious of how we talk about money around the children so they form empowering beliefs, not limitations.

Consequently, my daughter started her own jewellery business aged eight and has made more than £500 so far.

We also taught them the principles of saving, spending and giving, and they split their weekly pocket money three ways, which I recommend as a way of teaching children to understand money management.

I’m working on a money mindset programme for children that I’m hoping to launch in schools and online very soon.
