The Los Angeles Dodgers don’t have many holes heading into the offseason as reigning back-to-back World Series champions.
If the Dodgers didn’t make a single addition this offseason, they’d still be considered favorites to win the 2026 World Series.
That’s not how the Dodgers operate, though.

The Dodgers are coming off consecutive offseasons in which they didn’t spare any expenses to build a winner. While they may not need to do the same this offseason, they’re expected to be involved in all the top players.
The Dodgers will likely add at least one reliever this offseason after their bullpen was the team’s main pain point all year long. While the team expects Tanner Scott to have a bounce back season, there’s no clear-cut closer heading into 2026.
That’s why ESPN’s Jeff Passan believes the team should go all-in on the bullpen again, and sign New York Mets All-Star Edwin Diaz.
Passn wrote: “The Dodgers are not inclined to go 10-plus years on Kyle Tucker, they don’t need Kyle Schwarber and their starting pitching, with the return of seven pitchers who contributed in 2025 along with River Ryan and Gavin Stone coming back from major surgeries, is a strength. While they have plenty of room to maneuver for a trade, the most obvious move is to hope the second time’s the charm in spending big money on a closer after Tanner Scott’s disappearing act this year. Sign free agent closer Edwin Diaz.”
Diaz, 31, is a three-time All-Star and one of the game’s best closers. He’s coming off a 2025 season in which he made 62 appearances, sporting a 1.63 ERA with 28 saves and 98 strikeouts across 66.1 innings pitched.
Diaz has a career 2.82 ERA with 253 saves across 520 appearances. He was in the 99th percentile in expected ERA, expected batting average against, whiff percentage and strikeout percentage last season.
Diaz opted out of the final two years and $38 million on his contract to enter free agency and earn another long-term contract. Spotrac currently projects a four-year, $73.3 million deal.
