Newark Police say a Wilmington man was taken into custody following a robbery reported in the early morning hours of November 7, 2025, in the 1100 block of South College Avenue. Officers were dispatched around 1:32 a.m. after receiving a report of an assault outside a business.
According to police, the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Jordan Maness, confronted a man in the parking lot and made statements suggesting he intended to retrieve a firearm. Investigators allege that Maness briefly walked away, entered the building, and then returned to the victim before punching and strangling him. Police say he forcibly took the victim’s personal belongings during the assault. The victim refused medical treatment.
Police report that officers were able to gather a detailed description of Maness and his vehicle. A short time later, responding units located the vehicle leaving the area and conducted a traffic stop, taking Maness into custody without incident. He was transported to Newark Police Headquarters and later arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 on charges of first-degree robbery causing physical injury and strangulation. Police say he received a $70,000 cash bail and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
