Wilmington Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday at approximately 8:33 p.m. in the area of Vandever Avenue and Northeast Boulevard. Officers located two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A 23-year-old man was transported to the hospital in stable condition, while a 26-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
On Thursday, authorities confirmed that the critically injured man died from his injuries. The incident comes amid continued gun violence in Wilmington, a trend that has persisted despite multiple publicly announced violence-reduction efforts over the years.
Police identified the deceased victim as Malik Morgan. Recent incidents have prompted criticism from some community members who question whether various criminal-justice strategies and anti-violence programs have produced measurable improvements. Concerns have also been raised about whether approaches centered on restorative justice and reduced penalties have had any impact on the ongoing levels of gun-related crime.
