What’s Inside the Realme GT 8 Pro’s Cameras?

Just recently, Realme announced the debut of its new GT 8 Pro flagship, a camera-centric handset which the company is pushing forward as a top contender for premium mobile photography. That being said, the phone does come with a rather interesting approach to camera hardware, which we’re seeing more of from China-based smartphone brands.

More interestingly, the GT 8 Pro is a result of Realme’s partnership with camera brand RICOH GR (a team-up that spans four years), and the latter is hoping that this would be enough to take on rival camera smartphones. What does the GT 8 Pro come with though?

What’s Inside?

Unlike other flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy series or Google’s Pixel devices, the GT 8 Pro’s camera setup is based on a customized RICOH GR Camera System, which Realme says consists of a segment-first 200MP Ultra Clarity Telephoto lens in addition to “professional-grade” video capabilities.

This includes a 50MP Anti-Glare Main Camera with 7P lens and 5-layer anti-reflective coating for reduced glare and ghosting, which Realme says should be ideal for street photography, as seen via a dedicated “RICOH GR mode” in the software. Once enabled, it comes with two RICOH GR focal lengths of 28mm and 40mm, in addition to five classic RICOH GR film profiles which include Positive Film, Negative Film, High-Contrast B&W, Standard, and Monotone.

200MP Telephoto and Video Recording

For long-range shooting, the GT 8 Pro comes with a high-resolution 200MP Ultra Clarity Telephoto Camera, which comes with a 1/1.56” sensor, 3x optical zoom, 6x lossless zoom, and up to 12x lossless zoom; for portrait photography, it also features a 3x “golden focal length” which Realme says is optimized for natural depth of field and expressive character.

For video recording, the GT 8 Pro supports 4K 120fps Dolby Vision Recording in the main and telephoto cameras, although there’s also GT 8 Pro also offers 4K 120fps 10-bit Log and 8K 30fps ultra-high-resolution recording which should be suited for more professional-grade content.

The Realme GT8 Pro is priced starting at CNY3,999. It should be noted that the phone is currently exclusive to China, so we’ll have to wait and see when Realme decides to bring it to more markets worldwide.
