Samsung’s wild tri-fold phone might be closer than we thought. The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold just picked up certification from Singapore’s IMDA. That’s usually a pretty good sign that launch day is right around the corner. The paperwork reveals model number SM-F968B/DS with all the specs you’d expect. We’re talking dual SIM, 5G, NFC, WiFi, Bluetooth, and Ultra Wideband. Singapore looks like it’ll be one of the first places to actually get the thing, along with the UAE and Taiwan.
Singapore Certification Hints Launch Is Close
So here’s the thing about this IMDA certification. The Galaxy Z TriFold will pack dual SIM support, which is great if you’re juggling multiple phone numbers. It’s also perfect for international travel. The inclusion of UWB tech is interesting too. That’s typically reserved for Samsung’s more premium devices. It enables better location tracking and smoother device-to-device features.
Samsung showed off the device at the APEC conference back in South Korea. However, they’ve been pretty tight-lipped about when we’ll actually be able to buy one. Certifications like this usually pop up a few weeks before launch though. The rollout seems limited to Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE at first. That makes sense given the experimental nature and that eye-watering $2,400 price tag floating around in rumors.
What We Know About the Specs So Far
Based on the latest leaks, Samsung isn’t holding back on hardware. We’re looking at a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and up to 16GB of RAM. There’s also a tri-battery setup that adds up to around 5,000mAh total. The screen situation is pretty cool. It starts as a regular 6.5-inch phone, expands to 8 inches, then goes full 10-inch tablet mode when completely unfolded.
Camera-wise, Samsung’s apparently bringing over that 200MP sensor from the Galaxy Z Fold 7. That should mean seriously good photos. The folding mechanism uses a “G-shape” design that folds inward. This protects the screens better than Huawei’s outward-folding approach. Samsung’s also learned from earlier foldables by using reinforced hinges and ultra-thin glass.
Don’t expect to see these everywhere though. Production is supposedly limited to just 50,000 units for the initial run. As for the US, recent intel suggests Americans might have to sit this one out. At least for now. But if you’re in Singapore, the certification means you might not have to wait much longer.
