3 hospitalized after rollover crash on I-95: Fire Rescue

The southbound lanes of Interstate 95 were blocked on Sunday after a rollover crash sent three people to the hospital, fire rescue said.

According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, all southbound lanes on I-95 near Broward Boulevard have been blocked due to the crash.

At the scene, a black vehicle was flipped upside down, and at a silver car and a black car were also damaged in the crash.

The three people were taken to the Broward Health Medical Center for treatment, and one of them was taken with life-threatening injuries.

Due to the crash, traffic was backed up for miles as a result.

NBC6 spoke to a man who said he witnessed the aftermath of the crash.

He said the driver of the black SUV, which flipped over, was a disabled veteran who earlier in the afternoon had crashed into several plastic poles on the highway and then hit a car near Atlantic Boulevard.

The man said state troopers at the scene told him the driver of the SUV was having a medical emergency.

“Heartbreaking. It was sad to see,” Darryl Darling said. “There were two other cars that were mangled in one half of the express lane and the main road, two other cars, the van rolled over on its side and other grayish car that was pulled over.”

The Florida Highway Patrol has not confirmed those details.

The conditions of the two people involved in the crash were not released.
