Elderly woman dies from hypothermia after being found outside in Lehigh County

An elderly woman died from hypothermia during bitter cold temperatures in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, officials confirmed.

The woman — who was in her 90s — was found outside on the back patio of her home in Lower Macungie Township, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, Jan. 21, around 11 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy that was completed on Friday, Jan. 23, revealed she died from hypothermia which complicated her multifactorial cardiovascular disease. Her death was ruled an accident. Officials said the woman was exposed to bitter cold temperatures and was found outside by family members who were checking on her.

While the woman has been identified, officials are not releasing her name in order to provide privacy for her family.
