Jenny Slate Did Not Hold Back in Her Incredibly Damning Deposition Against Justin Baldoni

If I had a time machine, the very first thing I would do is travel back to 2015, find Colleen Hoover, and convince her that the book she’s currently writing, It Ends With Us, is a terrible idea for a novel and she should instead pursue, literally, any other creative idea she’s ever had. Anyway.

On Tuesday, hundreds of exhibits were unsealed in the seemingly never-ending litigation between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, including a slew of catty texts between Lively and Taylor Swift, Lively and Ben Affleck, and Ryan Reynolds and Matt Damon, among others. While the majority of headlines have zeroed in on Swift calling Baldoni a “bitch” and Lively texting Affleck that he’s a “chaotic clown,” it’s Jenny Slate‘s unsealed messages that are the most damning and, honestly, upsetting.

Slate’s deposition—which she gave on Sept. 26, 2025, in New York—included texts and messages she sent while filming, which were entered into the record. In them, Slate calls out Baldoni—and his Wayfarer Studios partner, Jamey Heath, who was also named in Lively’s lawsuit—for their gross and misogynistic on-set behavior, including Baldoni telling her she looked “sexy” on her second day of filming. (Which he added he was allowed to say because “my wife is here.” Literally, I feel sick.) I’m just going to go ahead and include a majority of them in full.

“Justin is truly a false ally and I’m unwilling to do anything that promotes the image that he’s crafting as a ‘male feminist,’” she wrote in one message. “Honestly I have no words to describe what a fraud he is.” In another, she wrote: “I honestly have never ever encountered anything like this dude. He’s the biggest clown and the most intense narcissist. Lots of lessons learned!”

In a message to her former agent in May 2023, she wrote: “This week was really intense for a few reasons. It’s like fascinating and also so shitty. Justin and Jamey [Heath] are truly unfit. I’m not scared or anything, just repulsed and deeply irritated, and I know Blake is experiencing that on a much more serious level.”

“I feel like it’s about to get really bad and I’m not sure what Blake’s limit is but she’s really taken a lot of crap from them, like crazy shit, and I’m not kidding when I tell you that Justin and Jamey me freak me out,” Slate continued in the message to her former agent. “Like they tell really weird lies and Justin is astoundingly wrongheaded.”

In the same message: “I really don’t get how he did a TED Talk. He is worse than the bros I’ve encountered, not because he’s predatory but because of his general fragility and misogyny, like not seeming to be aware of any of the obvious no-no’s.”

“This has been a really gross and disturbing shoot, and I’m one of the many who feel this way,” she concluded. “Blake and I have both complained directly to Ange [Giannetti] at Sony, (and they agree w us btw).”

About promoting the film, Slate also messaged her team in June 2023, saying, “I don’t want to do anything with Justin, I don’t want to talk about him, like … nothing. And the same goes for Jamey, who is truly unprofessional.”

Slate supported Lively after she filed her initial complaint against Baldoni, writing in a statement: “What has been revealed about the attack on Blake is terribly dark, disturbing and wholly threatening. I commend my friend, I admire her bravery, and I stand by her side.” But these newly unsealed documents are the first we’ve learned of the extent of Slate’s experience working with Baldoni.
In February, the Hollywood Reporter published a ridiculous cover story about Baldoni, basically trying to claim that since he grew up in a small, obscure Iranian religion, any inappropriate action is defensible because he just didn’t know any better. Well, shucks!
The trial is currently set for May 18. With Slate’s deposition now part of the public record, it’s increasingly unclear what Baldoni is still trying to defend himself against.
