Carmel star quarterback Trae Taylor transfers to Nebraska
Carmel’s Trae Taylor (6) looks for an open receiver against St. Charles North.

Trae Taylor, who starred as Carmel's quarterback for the past two seasons, announced Wednesday morning on X that he is transferring to Millard South, a high school in Omaha.

Taylor has committed to Nebraska for college.

"This decision was not taken lightly. I’ll be living in Lincoln commuting to Omaha. So any chance I’m allowed in the facilities I’ll be there. Kinda a redshirt year at a slower pace. 2) I don’t want to miss a single recruit that comes in. None of this is possible without [Carmel coach Jason McKie] and his support, and him giving me the green light to go be great nothing but love. And of course my [Carmel] teammates my progress was faster because of you. Thank you Corsairs community."

Taylor, 6-3, 190 pounds, was a Sun-Times All-Area selection last season. He completed 82% of his passes (205 of 251) for 3,571 yards and 38 TDs. He rushed for 633 yards and 12 TDs.

Carmel finished 8-3 last season, losing to St. Charles North in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs. Taylor was the starting quarterback for the Corsairs his sophomore and junior seasons.

Taylor and Montini quarterback Israel Abrams were the early front runners for next season's Player of the Year award and Carmel, which was very young last season, would have been a top 10 team in the preseason if Taylor returned.
