My biggest issue with McCarthy is his age. But if you want to ‘split the difference’ between O and D, McCarthy can do that.
Don’t get me wrong, he is considered primarily an O mind. But after years as a HC, he has also had ‘some’ experience on the D side of the ball.
To me he would be a good fall back position. If you hire him, best case he’s here for like 5 to 7 years.
