Game notes
- The Bruins will end their brief two-game road trip with a visit to the Lone Star State to face the Dallas Stars, who are second in their division (by quite a margin, as they’re in the same division as the Avalanche juggernaut).
- While the Stars were admirably hanging with the Avs as well as could be expected earlier in the season, they’ve slipped of late. Dallas has lost three games in a row, and eight of their last ten. In fact, if you go back to just before Christmas (Dec. 23), the Stars have only won twice in 12 games.
- Still, these Stars are better than their recent record indicates. They have a top-10 offense (9th at 3.27 GF/G), top-10 team defense (6th at 2.78 GA/G), and the league’s second-best power play.
- While Jake Oettinger remains the Stars’ #1, he has struggled since the turn of the year. He’s 1-4-1 in his last six starts with a GAA north of 3.5.
- Things have been going pretty well for the Bruins lately, with the B’s winners of six in a row. While they’ve faced some good teams during their recent 8-1-1 run, a road game against this Dallas team should be their toughest test.
- Former Bruin Tyler Seguin, who has been reliably prolific for years in Dallas, tore his ACL in early December and is out for the year.
- The Bruins recalled defenseman Billy Sweezey from Providence on an emergency basis on Sunday, putting Henri Jokiharju on the “non-roster” list for a family matter in a corresponding roster move.
- I’m not 100% clear on tonight’s TV broadcast, as the NHL website says this game will be on NESN as well as TNT and HBO Max. If you land on NESN and it’s showing Charlie Moore, don’t blame me.
