MCSO investigating 11-year-old student's death on Magnolia ISD school bus; no foul play suspected

Carlos Fernandez was killed in March 2024, when authorities said he was trying to protect his mom from her abusive ex. Nearly two years later, Terry Rivera pleaded guilty in connection with the shooting.

Records allege Rivera left handwritten notes and trinkets such as dolls, figurines, and a crucifix at the victim's home over the course of six months.

Police said they don't know what prompted the shooting, and that the unknown suspect is at large. The man is expected to be OK.
