California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton tours San Jose tiny homes

Mayor Matt Mahan hosted a California gubernatorial candidate Tuesday for a tour of a tiny home facility in San Jose.

Steve Hilton toured the facility on Guadalupe Parkway with the mayor, who used the opportunity to discuss what he sees as major achievements and roadblocks at the state level.

The concept is known as an emergency housing site with 96 modular units.

The facility also offers case management and job training, with the intention to get the unhoused enrolled.

The city said there is a high success rate in moving folks into permanent housing. Mayor Mahan hopes this can serve as a model for California moving forward.

“No matter who our next governor is, no matter which party they come from, I need them focused on solutions, and this is what today is about. We are leading the way on homelessness, on public safety,” mayor Mahan said.

The mayor held a similar tour with other candidates a few weeks ago, including Tom Steyer and Katie Porter.
