Officer hurt after crashing into parked vehicle in South Philly, police say

A Philadelphia police officer has been hospitalized, officials said, after crashing into a parked car in South Philly early Tuesday.

According to police, an officer was involved in a crash when a marked patrol unit that the officer was operating struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle along the 1600 block of South 29th Street at about 4:48 a.m. on Tuesday.

The officer, officials said, was taken to a nearby hospital shortly after the crash.

Officials said the officer is expected to be treated and released.

The patrol vehicle involved in the collision sustained heavy front-end damage, officials said.

Police did not immediately say what may have caused the crash.

But, an investigation into this incident is ongoing.
