2 minors flown to hospital after shooting in Opa-locka: Police

Two minors were airlifted to the hospital after a shooting in Opa-locka early Tuesday, officials said.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire at Sailboat Cove, a gated neighborhood in the area of 1800 Northwest 142nd Lane, Opa-locka Police said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said two juveniles had to be flown to a trauma center. Police said they were in critical but stable condition.

Another patient was treated at the scene but refused hospitalization, officials said.

“Several individuals attempting to flee the scene were detained, and officers recovered multiple weapons from a vehicle possibly associated with the incident,” police said in a news release.

More information about what led to the shooting was not immediately provided.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we are dedicated to bringing those responsible to justice,” police said. “The safety and well-being of community remains a top priority and we are committed to ensuring a comprehensive investigation.”
