They say three is a streak, thus the Ole Miss Rebels are officially streaking after a second consecutive Patton Pinkins game winning shot. Mississippi State essentially choked away their Super Bowl in Starkville on Saturday, but a win is a win is a win.
Now to keep it going. The 11-7 Auburn Tigers come to Oxford after a 2-3 start to SEC play. These Tigers sans Bruce Pearl at the helm are a confusing bunch. They dominated Arkansas, a team Ole Miss lost to, but lost in OT to Georgia, whom the Rebels defeated in OT.
Auburn has also knocked off St. John’s, who the Rebs lost to, as well as NC State and Oregon. They are #32 in the NET Rankings because some of their losses have come to teams like Purdue, Houston, Michigan and Arizona.
The Tigers have five players averaging double digits, partly because they keep their rotation to 7-8 guys. They are led by UCF transfer Keyshawn Hall, who is at his fourth school in four years. Hall averages 20.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and shoots 41.1% from three on just over four attempts per game.
Another old adage, you gotta cut the head off the snake. Ole Miss did that against Hubbard on Saturday, they will need to do the same against Hall. On the flip side, AJ Storr needs to continue to emerge as the offensive leader and hopefully being at home allows bigger efforts from the supporting cast, especially shooting the ball.
Tune into ESPNU tonight at 8:00 to see if the Rebels are able to stay hot and notch their fourth SEC win in a row.
