According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Miami Dolphins are closing in on a deal to hire Jeff Hafley as their new head coach. This also means the Green Bay Packers are in need of a new defensive coordinator.
As for the team’s head coaching search, still a few teams remain on the race to find a new guy to put at the helm:
- Baltimore Ravens
- Buffalo Bills
- Cleveland Browns
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Tennessee Titans
- Las Vegas Raiders
- Arizona Cardinals
It’s a full-on change in philosophy for the Dolphins
Mike McDaniel was an offensive mind, with a more relaxed, chill vibe. Hafley is the complete opposite. He is an intense, defensive-oriented coach. This marks a complete change of direction in a franchise that desperately needs it.

However, this also implies that Hafley will need to bring a new offensive coordinator to call plays on that side of the ball. Hafley’s first mission is to change the culture of the team, and take care of his side of the ball, which is defense. With Bills firing Sean McDermott, the Dolphins now leave the Bills as the only team in the AFC East without a head coach.
Miami needs to stir the pot
For the Dolphins, it’s not enough to only salvage some stuff from last year, they need to make noise in a good way. Hence, Hafley is coming to a job where pressure will be put on his shoulders immediately.
