A former Washington County school bus driver was sentenced to 18.5 years in prison on Thursday for sexually assaulting a student, the Ellsworth American reported.
Duane Geel, 68, of Wesley, pleaded guilty to six counts of gross sexual assault. He was arrested on April 23, 2025, and has been held at Washington County Jail on $100,000 bail.
According to testimony cited by the American, Geel groomed, raped and stalked the victim from the time she was a small child, and the abuse occurred over a number of years.
His sentence will be followed by 10 years of supervised release when he will be barred from making contact with the victim, according to the American.
