Well, that is something.
The Arizona Cardinals offense in 2024 with a healthy Kyler Murray, a decent and healthy offensive line and Drew Petzing calling plays were nearly a top 12 offense in all statistical and/or efficiency measures.
That lead to a lot of excitement for 2025.
Obviously injuries and ineffectiveness hurt things, but the NFL still seems to believe in Drew Petzing, as he is close to becoming the new offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions per reports.
Petzing in three years as the Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator had the Cardinals:
2023 – 19th in yards and 24th in points
2024 – 11th in yards and 12th in points
2025 – 19th in yards and 23rd in points
He had a top seven rushing offense in yards in 2023 and 2024, and was second in yards per attempt in both seasons.
He had a top seven passing offense for the first time in 2025, but the rushing offense plummeted to 31st in yards, despite being 16th in yards per attempt. That is what happens when you are 32nd in rushing attempts.
The problem with the passing offense was that it was first in attempts, but seven in yards. Compare that to the rushing success in ‘23 where they were 13 in attempts and fourth in yards and ‘24 where they were 11th in attempts and seventh in yards and you see the efficiency was lacking in the passing game.
He should have a chance to have a much more complete offense in 2026 with the Lions.
Good luck in your next stop, Drew.
