Kentucky Football has landed another wide receiver through the transfer portal, adding Southern Utah standout Shane Carr after a recent visit to Lexington.
Carr, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound receiver from Bakersfield, California, entered the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining. Despite not being ranked as a high school recruit and still holding no rating from 247 Sports — On3 has him ranked 891st overall and 123rd among wide receivers in the transfer portal — Carr has built one of the more impressive resumes among FCS receivers over the last two seasons.
In 2024 and 2025, Carr led Southern Utah in receiving yards both years, totaling 81 receptions for 1,371 yards and 10 touchdowns during that span. He quickly became the Thunderbirds’ most reliable offensive weapon, showing the ability to stretch the field, win contested catches, and consistently move the chains.
Carr’s rise is a true development story. Coming out of high school in Bakersfield, he flew under the radar without major recruiting attention. At Southern Utah, he steadily worked his way into a featured role, turning production into opportunity at the FBS level.
Kentucky has made upgrading its pass-catching corps a priority, and Carr fits the profile of a player who has already proven he can carry a heavy workload. While the jump from FCS to SEC is significant, Kentucky is banking on Carr’s consistency and growth to show he’s ready for the challenge.
With two years left to play, Kentucky is hoping Carr’s underdog story continues in Lexington under new head coach Will Stein.
