For the first time in his career, Luka Dončić led the league in voting en route to the sixth All-Star selection of his career. Luka was named a starter for the Western Conference — which means effectively nothing since it’ll be USA vs. World teams — on Monday.
Joining Luka from the west is Nikola Jokić, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Steph Curry and Victor Wembanyama. From the Eastern Conference, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Maxey, Cade Cunningham and Jaylen Brown were voted as starters.
Given the fact that there is one World team, that means the starting five for that team will be Luka, Jokić, SGA, Wemby and Giannis.
Good luck beating that!
Luka finished first in fan voting, second in media voting and sixth in player voting to finish with the second-most points, trailing only Jokić.
LeBron finished eighth in fan and player voting and ninth in media voting, slotting him ninth overall. Austin Reaves, who was well on his way to an All-Star selection before injury, was 11th in fan voting, 14th in media voting and 27th in player voting.
This season, Luka is averaging 33.3 points, 8.6 assists and 7.5 rebounds. He’s shooting 46.4% from the field and 33.7% from the 3-point line and is averaging a career high 11.5 free throws a game, converting on 78.3% of them.
Out of the gates, Luka was fantastic this season, scoring 92 points in the team’s first two games. After missing a week to injury, he returned with another 40-point performance. While he’s slowed since, he’s still performed at a remarkable level.
Luka has seven 40-point performances and four triple-doubles, highlighted by his 45-point, 14-assist, 11-rebound game against Utah.
The All-Star Game will be hosted at the Intuit Toilet Dome in mid-February.
