Local police were on high alert during the pregame tailgate for the National Championship at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The Hurricanes completely took over the parking lot while the Hoosiers hung out at the official fan fest put on by the College Football Playoff.
Those who set up their own tailgate were forced to adhere to a specific set of rules.
Although the rules are in place for a reason, it seems to me like there are a lot more important things to worry about than the volume of music. Let college football fans figure that out for themselves.
Miami and Indiana fans swarmed to different parts of Hard Rock Stadium.
Because this was a literal home game for Miami, it was nothing new. People who lived with in a few hours (or much less) were able to drive right up to Hard Rock Stadium with all of their folding tables, cups, food and drink. This is standard procedure. It happens every Sunday for the Dolphins sometimes on Saturday for the Hurricanes.
Get in early, set up camp, break it all down after the game. Easy peasy!
As a result, the parking lot was a sea of orange and green.

Some of the setups were more elaborate than others.
Booze was flowing.

Food was cooking.

Indiana fans did not have the same luxury. They could not drive up the road. They did not have all of their tailgate essentials with them on the flight to Florida. Logistics are difficult for road games.
Thus, the official College Football Playoff National Championship tailgate was a sea of red.

The Hoosiers had to find a pre-established location with all of the amenities provided to them. Makes sense.

Local police were on high alert at the tailgate.
The official College Football Playoff “play”book helps fans to know exactly what is going on on game day. It helps with things like the schedule of events, transportation options, prohibited items, ticket scanning, clear bag policies and all of the pageantry. It also sets a very specific set of rules for tailgates.

Take note of the music specifically. Music “must be played at a reasonable volume and shall not contain explicit lyrics. Violators may be ejected. No professional DJ setups are permitted in parking lots.”
The police made sure to enforce the rules. They were all over the loud music.

I get it. Rules are rules. They exist for a reason.
Are we really going to get worked up over music? At a tailgate? In Miami? For the national championship?
It seems to me like there are much bigger priorities. Police have better, more important ways to spend their time. If there is an issue with the music, the people who have the issue can figure it out for themselves. And if they can’t, then the police should get involved!
