Bills GM Brandon Beane Learns His Fate After Buffalo Fires Sean McDermott

The Buffalo Bills have made a major change after suffering a crushing 33-30 loss to the Denver Broncos in their divisional round playoff matchup, as they have fired head coach Sean McDermott. While McDermott turned the Bills into a perennial playoff contender during his time in charge, his continued struggles in the postseason have cost him his job.

With McDermott headed for the exit door, all eyes have turned to general manager Brandon Beane next, as fans are curious to see if he will be canned, too. Shortly after news of McDermott’s firing was reported, Beane’s fate with the Bills came into clarity as the team embarks on what has suddenly become a wildly important offseason.

Bills Won’t Fire Brandon Beane After Sean McDermott Move

Back in 2017, the Bills brought McDermott and Beane into town together, hoping that this duo could help the organization get back on track. Shortly after, the team would select Josh Allen with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and he eventually turned himself into an MVP-caliber talent who has turned Buffalo into one of the top teams in the league.

Throughout Allen’s star turn, McDermott and Beane worked in tandem to build the team up around him. McDermott crafted an offensive system geared towards Allen’s talents, while Beane worked on constructing a strong roster with a talented core group around Allen that could help him elevate his game.

During the regular season, the results have been great, but Buffalo has consistently fallen short in the postseason, as it has advanced to the AFC Championship Game just once during Allen’s time under center. After the team’s latest loss to Denver, McDermott lost his job, but Beane won’t be subjected to the same fate, as he will be sticking around to help lead the Bills in their search for a new head coach.

“Bills GM Brandon Beane will remain and help lead the search for a new coach,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network shared in a post on X shortly after reporting the news of McDermott’s firing.

Who Should the Bills Hire as their New Head Coach After Firing Sean McDermott?

The Bills’ decision to fire McDermott is a bit surprising, given how many other openings there are across the league, and how far behind the eight-ball the team is when it comes to their head coach search. There’s no doubt that Buffalo’s opening will be viewed as one of the top jobs across the league, though, so there should be great interest among head coach candidates across the league when it comes to this gig.

Not only is Beane staying with the Bills, but he’s actually received a promotion in the wake of McDermott’s firing, as he will be working as the team’s President of Football Operations, in addition to his aforementioned general manager duties. With these moves, Buffalo is clearly committing to Beane for the long-term future, and all eyes will turn to him as he leads the team’s search for McDermott’s replacement.
