It’s been over two decades since Harry Potter first charmed audiences through J.K. Rowling’s best‑selling novels and the Warner Bros. film adaptations that followed.

The franchise has become a cultural juggernaut, spawning theme park lands and attractions at Universal Studios, the stage phenomenon Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, merchandise, and a multimedia presence that keeps the magic alive for old fans and new.

Now, the Wizarding World is gearing up for a new chapter on the small screen with an ambitious new Harry Potter television series. The upcoming adaptation will reimagine the original books, bringing each of Rowling’s seven novels to life across multiple seasons in a format that promises to dive deeper into the source material than the films did.

At the same time, Harry Potter: The Full‑Cast Audio Editions is still rolling out a slate of newly produced audiobook adaptations of all seven novels. These high‑production audio editions, which started releasing monthly last November, feature a star‑studded voice cast including Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort, Riz Ahmed as Severus Snape, and more, offering a new way to experience the Wizarding World.

But while fans look forward to these major projects, not all news has been positive on the interactive front. A Harry Potter video game project that had reportedly been in development for virtual reality (VR) has been canceled behind closed doors, according to YouTube channel Gamertag VR (via GamingBible), which reports that Meta has shuttered several VR titles in development, including a Harry Potter game being made by Skydance.

There’s been no official confirmation from Meta or Skydance, and it’s unclear how far into development the project had reached before it was dropped.

For many fans, the best way to step into the Wizarding World on the gaming front is Hogwarts Legacy, the open‑world RPG developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games. Released in 2023 and set a century before the events of the books, Hogwarts Legacy lets players explore Hogwarts, create their own students, cast iconic spells, and uncover mysteries throughout the magical world.

While hopes for new Harry Potter game expansions have waxed and waned, Hogwarts Legacy continues to offer deep immersion into the lore and enchantment that made the franchise a global phenomenon.

The Harry Potter television series is now in production. John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch), Katherine Parkinson (Molly Weasley), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter) are among its extensive cast.

The series will reportedly have seven seasons, each based upon one of Rowling’s books. It’s written and executive-produced by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (HBO’s Succession, His Dark Materials, Killing Eve).

J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films are also onboard as executive producers. Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones, The Last of Us) will executive-produce and direct multiple episodes.

Season 1 is expected to premiere in 2027.
