Senegal face sanctions for walk-off after penalty awarded
Brahim Díaz has admitted it will be hard for him to recover from his missed penalty in the Africa Cup of Nations final. The forward apologised to Morocco’s supporters for what he described as a failure that had left soul hurting but promised he would one day make the country proud of him again.
Díaz’s weak Panenka penalty wafted into the gloves of the Senegal goalkeeper, Édouard Mendy, deep in stoppage time of Sunday’s final with the game goalless. The miss came after a 16-minute delay caused by Senegal’s players walking off in protest at the spot-kick’s award. Morocco then conceded in extra time, losing in front of their home fans in Rabat.
