Bitter cold settles in, weather advisory looms, following winter storm

After a weekend storm dropped as much as four inches of snow throughout parts of the region, a bitter cold is settling in.

And, according to the National Weather Service, the dropping temperatures will bring a cold wind along that will bring chills that could be hitting as low as 10 degrees below zero in the Philadelphia area.

In fact, the National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory that will be in effect from 2 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, due to freezing temperatures.

This advisory will be in effect in Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon and Monroe counties in Pa. along with Warren County in New Jersey.

Officials with the NWS said warned residents to ensure that they are wearing appropriate clothes, including a hat and gloves, if they plan to be outside in these freezing conditions.

Also, officials said that while crews throughout the region have been working to de-ice the roadways as areas of standing water have re-frozen overnight, sidewalks and other surfaces could still be slippery due to icy conditions.

Officials advised residents to plan extra travel time due to the weather and be prepared to travel slower to ensure a safer commute.
