Haitians divided over government’s decision to hold 2026 Carnival

The 2026 Carnival is set to begin this Sunday, Jan. 18, amid worsening insecurity fueled by ongoing gang violence and political uncertainty. The Transitional Presidential Council’s mandate is set to expire Feb. 7, leaving Haitians sharply divided over whether now is the right time to celebrate.
