American rock band Story of the Year recently released their single “Disconnected,” the second track from their upcoming album A.R.S.O.N., which is set to release February 13.
“Disconnected” is a heavy and emotionally charged track that encapsulates the frustration and loneliness that come with the journey of wanting to get better, but not knowing where to begin. This vulnerable feeling is exemplified by high-energy drums, cathartic screams, and punchy guitar riffs that give the song a “no-holds-barred” edge as frontman Dan Marsala sings the lyrics: “I’m sick of being disconnected from everything I need.”
The release of “Disconnected” is accompanied by a moody music video that takes the viewer through the vertigo of what it’s like to be caught in between the longing to heal and the crushing feeling of falling apart.
Guitarist Ryan Phillips shares a bit on how the song materialized, stating:
“When I showed Colin [Brittain] the original version of the song, he loved everything besides the main guitar riff I had at the time. One day by chance I played him a song that I had planned for a solo record. It was this long piano piece that slowly gained momentum and then finally exploded into this really heavy low tuned whammy bar riff. He stopped the song and said ‘Dude, that’s the riff we need. We have to use that as the main riff for ‘Disconnected.’ He cut it together and it worked perfectly. Sometimes that’s how it goes!”
Along with the upcoming release of A.R.S.O.N., Story of the Year will be kicking off 2026 with a tour hitting a cruise and multiple festivals. The tour starts in Miami and ends in the UK, with the second date of the tour being their special album release show in their hometown of St. Louis, MO.
