Mohammed Usman has issued a public apology after receiving a 30-month suspension from Combat Sports Anti-Doping.
On Friday, CSAD announced that Usman tested positive for the presence of testosterone ahead of an Oct. 11 heavyweight bout with Valter Walker at UFC Rio, with the result forcing Usman out of that contest. He also admitted to using BPC-157, a banned peptide, earlier in 2025. As a result, Usman is now suspended and ineligible to compete until April 2028.
The 36-year-old released a statement on the news via Instagram, calling the testosterone use “a mistake.”
“I want to address my suspension,” Usman wrote. “During my recovery, I made a mistake while trying to heal, and I take full responsibility for it. The time has allowed me to get my health back, focus on my family, and gain a deeper appreciation for life.”
Usman did not comment on his fighting future, adding only, “I’m taking things one day at a time and staying committed to growth and doing things the right way.”
The younger brother of former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, Mohammed currently holds a 4-2 record in the UFC and an 11-4 pro record overall. Mohammed was the heavyweight winner of the 30th season of The Ultimate Fighter and went on to win his next two UFC fights following his tournament win. After consecutive losses to Mick Parkin and Thomas Petersen, Usman returned to the win column with a win over Hamdy Abdelwahab at UFC Baku in June.
