Reese Witherspoon Warns Fans Against Scammers Impersonating Her
Photo Credit: Stephanie Augello / Getty Images Reese Witherspoon recently took to TikTok to post a message for fans, warning them about scammers in their DMs. Witherspoon spoke out after learning that scammers have been posing as her on social media, trying to get personal details and money from people who think they are talking to her. She addressed the situation in a January 14 TikTok video, calling the message “important.” Reese Witherspoon cautions fans against online scammers impersonating her in TikTok video @reesewitherspoon I would never manipulate you. Please check for verification. ♬ original sound – Reese Witherspoon Addressing the scam, Reese Witherspoon said, “I want to just tell you what I’ve been dealing with for the past 24 hours. There are multiple people on TikTok and Instagram impersonating me, and they go into people’s DMs, and they try to build a relationship.” Moreover, she added that the fake accounts “try to extract personal information, plan meet-up times. I want you to know this is not me.” Witherspoon clarified she does not contact fans privately for anything. She said, “It’s so upsetting that people would use my name to manipulate people,” adding, “But I want you to know that I would never ever manipulate you. I would never reach out to you for money, for private information, to create a meet-up time.” Moreover, she urged fans to “look at these accounts that are doing this and make sure they’re verified.” Furthermore, Witherspoon noted, “This is not just me, this is happening across the board, but it’s really upsetting to me that this is happening on such a large scale.” The actor ended her warning with, “So, please be careful out there and please know I would never reach out to you to manipulate you or to take anything from you, okay?” Witherspoon’s video to warn her fans about the scam was scary but necessary. But the main message is that if an account claims to be her and asks for money, personal information, or a meeting, fans should treat it as a red flag.
