My biggest issue with McCarthy is his age. But if you want to ‘split the difference’ between O and D, McCarthy can do that. Don’t get me wrong, he is considered primarily an O mind. But after years as a HC, he has also had ‘some’ experience on the D side of the ball. To me he would be a good fall back position. If you hire him, best case he’s here for like 5 to 7 years.

BS. Highest paid defense in the league that plays like one of the worst defenses in the league. Tomlin has been given plenty of talent and resources. Holes on the roster have been created by Tomlin. Most specifically, QB. Tomlin has always been given credit for fixing problems that he created. Like it was someone else's mistakes that he was fixing.
