Maple Leafs’ Craig Berube has no update on William Nylander’s groin injury

The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming in off a 4-3 overtime victory over the Winnipeg Jets. They did not have William Nylander in the victory, as Nylander was injured in the loss to the Vegas Golden Knights last Thursday. On Monday, head coach Craig Berube gave an update on the star. “I don’t know how long the timeline will be for him. When he feels good enough to get on the ice, and he goes out there and skates, and feels good, I expect him to be back fairly quick then. Until then, I’m not sure when he’s going to be on the ice,” Berube said on Monday, according to Jeremy Tingly of NHL Trade Rumors. This is an injury that Nylander has been dealing with much of the season, missing eight games total this season. This is a major loss for the Leafs. The Canadian has 17 goals and leads the team with 31 assists. That gives him a team high of 48 total points. “It’s obviously bothering him a lot, for quite some time, and hasn’t really got much better. Other than whether he gets some breaks, Christmas time, he comes back and feels better. It’s an ongoing issue,” Berube added. This is also a major stretch of games for the Maple Leafs as they try to get back into the playoff race. The team will play the next five games at home, facing the Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings, Golden Knights, Colorado Avalanche, and Buffalo Sabres. All five of them are currently in playoff positions, with the Sabres being directly in front of the Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference. Toronto is 24-16-8 this season, which is currently sixth in the Atlantic Division. They are just one point behind the Sabres for the final wild card spot and two points behind the Boston Bruins. The Maple Leafs return to the ice, without Nylander, on Monday night against the Wild. Warriors’ Draymond Green downgraded for clash vs. Heat

Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green has been downgraded for Monday’s matchup against the Miami Heat. After Green had words for Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns after the Warriors’ 126-113 win, he could miss facing the Heat, as Golden State will look to stretch its winning streak to four. Green is dealing with a right ankle sprain, which could force the Warriors to sit him against the Heat, per ClutchPoints’ Brett…

ClutchPoints’ NHL Power Rankings, Week 16: Rasmus Andersson, you’re a Golden Knight

One of the most highly-anticipated trades of the 2025-26 NHL season got over the finish line on Sunday, with Rasmus Andersson being shipped to the first place he was ever linked to — the Vegas Golden Knights. The Swedish defenseman has been a heart and soul player for the Calgary Flames since being selected by the franchise in the second round back in 2015, but over a decade later, he’s headed to the strip. The Knights certainly gave up a lot in their quest to create one of the most dominant blue lines in professional hockey. That includes Zach Whitecloud, who has spent his entire career in Nevada, along with prospect Abram Weibe, a first-round draft pick in 2027, and a second — that becomes a first if Vegas wins the Stanley Cup this season. It’s a swap that at first glance looks like it will benefit both organizations. Andersson will get an opportunity to chase a championship, and it’s expected that he’ll sign a long-term extension with his new team. Meanwhile, Flames GM Craig Conroy recouped some serious draft capital as he looks to build a contender in the near future. For those keeping track, that’s the third legitimate blockbuster trade of the campaign. Tristan Jarry and Stuart Skinner changed squads in early December, and Quinn Hughes got sent to the Minnesota Wild on that same Friday. Now, exactly 37 days later, Rasmus Andersson is a Golden Knight. Heading into Week 16 — beginning with Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday in the United States — it’s the week of 1,000 games in the National. A full three players are set to reach the impressive milestone over the next seven days, including Alex Killorn, Charlie Coyle and Roman Josi. It’s also going to be a week of homecomings, with Mitch Marner and Jonathan Toews playing their first career games as an opponent at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto and the United Center in Chicago, respectively. It goes without saying that it’s another busy stretch in our great National Hockey League. Speaking of that, the stretch run continues in earnest; every single point is crucial for teams with playoff aspirations — and there are still plenty of them with under three months left. As usual, the movement in ClutchPoints’ NHL Power Rankings is momentous nearly two thirds of the way through January. Scroll down for the updated list. Previous 2025-26 NHL Power Rankings: Week 15 | Week 14 | Week 13 | Week 12 | Week 11 | Week 10 | Week 9 | Week 8 | Week 7 | Week 6 | Week 5 | Week 4 | Week 3 | Week 2 | Week 1 1. Colorado Avalanche (no change) Here’s an outrageous stat: it took the Avalanche 46 games before they lost in regulation at home in 2025-26. That’s over half the season! There’s the good news; the bad news is, Colorado has lost two games in a row twice over the last two weeks, and for those doing the math, that’s four losses in six tries overall. A 33-5-8 record is still incredible, but it’s been a challenging stretch in Denver nonetheless. After winning two and losing two in the first four of a seven-game homestand, the Avs will play three more tilts at Ball Arena, starting with a visit from the Capitals on Monday afternoon — a contest that got underway shortly before the latest NHL Power Rankings was published. 2. Tampa Bay Lightning (no change) If there’s any team that has any chance of dethroning the Avalanche at the top of the NHL Power Rankings in 2025-26, it’s the Lightning. Colorado and Tampa Bay have emerged into the two best teams in the league, just like they did en route to one of the most exciting Stanley Cup Finals in recent memory back in June of 2022. After a slow start, the Bolts have been unbeatable in regulation since Dec. 18, and the only loss in that span was a tight shootout L to the Blues, in a game that could have went either way. The Lightning have still won 12 of 13 and are showing no signs at all of slowing down. We all know how good this core can be at its best, and we’re seeing that level in real time, even without Victor Hedman in the lineup. Next up is a visit…

Now the Bills are on the hunt for a new head coach. And Mike Tomlin is unattached to a team for the…

NFL rumors: Sean McDermott seen as head coach candidate for Ravens, Titans

While the Baltimore Ravens scheduled a second interview with Anthony Weaver, the Titans are kicking the tires of a pair of coordinators. But according to NFL rumors, former Bills coach Sean McDermott is seen as a candidate for the Ravens and the Titans. It makes a sensible fit, according to a post on X, formerly Twitter by the Rich Eisen Show. “Where could Sean McDermott potentially land next?” Tom Pelissero said. “Baltimore is certainly one that I could see making a lot of sense for Sean McDermott. And the other one would be Tennessee. “We know the Titans have pursued John Harbaugh. They wanted to speak to Kevin Stefanski before he took Atlanta. Given the aggressiveness of Tennessee, they’ve got a quarterback. Great place to live. New stadium opening. There are aspects of that job I would say don’t count them out for Sean McDermott.” @TomPelissero Who's on #BillsMafia head coach radar after they fired Sean McDermott after nine seasons?#NFL #NFLPlayoffs pic.twitter.com/L35OS15kts — Rich Eisen Show (@RichEisenShow) January 19, 2026 Where would Sean McDermott likely avoid? Because of his previous success, McDermott likely wouldn’t take over a rebuilding process. “It doesn’t make a ton of sense for him to go into a total rebuild,” Pelissero said. “He’s 51 years old. He’s been there every year, been in the playoffs every season here in recent years.: That likely rules out the Raiders and Cardinals, Pelissero said. One thing that seems certain is that McDermott will land somewhere. Even though he hasn’t gotten over the hump, there seems to be a belief in NFL circles that he could get there. Still, McDermott got ushered out of Buffalo because he fell short too many times, according to ESPN. “He didn’t finish the job,” Alaina Getzenberg wrote. “In a results business, McDermott was incredibly successful, winning 10 or more games in seven straight seasons, the longest active streak in the NFL. The Bills are one of six teams in the Super Bowl era to have a streak that long. “The firing comes down to what McDermott didn’t do, but perhaps more substantially, a clear decision by (owner Terry) Pegula to go with (general manager) Brandon Beane’s vision for the team moving forward. And the general manager winning out in receiving the owner’s faith in building the vision for the future.” However, the problem with Beane is that he hasn’t acquired good enough receiving weapons for Josh Allen. Beane stood behind his decision to go into this season with a receiver room that looked weak. And then it played weak. By all rights, Beane should have been first out of the door.
