Draymond Green fouls Warriors out in loss to Mavericks

Draymond Green has a history of getting himself kicked out of games when Steph Curry is unavailable. That might extend to games when Jimmy Butler is out. The Warriors’ embattled power forward came into a tied game with the Dallas Mavericks and committed two personal fouls and a flagrant in 1:52. Dallas rode the extra free throws to an 11-0 run that the Warriors couldn’t overcome in a 123-115 loss. Green finished with four points, three turnovers and six fouls — plus a flagrant. The Warriors lost their second straight game and lost their second forward in three games. Jonathan Kuminga had scored 10 points in nine minutes when he had to leave the game with injuries to his ankle and knee. He finished with a plus/minus of +18, second to Melton’s +22 among Warriors players. Curry put the Warriors on his back with 38 points and eight three-pointers, while new starter Brandin Podziemski had a 10-assist game. Curry’s 12 4th-quarter points weren’t enough to get Golden State past a huge game from Naji Marshall — 30 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, 10-for-12 shooting — and Dwight Powell turning back the clock with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Steph is LOCKED in 🔒 pic.twitter.com/UG7KR7IPK1— Warriors on NBCS (@NBCSWarriors) January 23, 2026 The Warriors ultimately lost this game in two areas: Rebounding, and fouls. Dallas had 54 rebounds to the Warriors’ 35, and shot 30 free throws to the Warriors’ 18. The bench shot 3-for-16 from deep, Kuminga’s injury derailed the already-tenuous rotations, and Gary Payton II was an improbable -32 in his 17 minutes on the floor while missing three shots within two feet of the hoop. Melton was once again one of the Warriors best players, scoring his 22 points in 23 minutes, shooting 9-for-15 with two assists and two steals. He may be the most pleasant surprise for the Warriors all year, while unintentionally placing himself in the rumor mill for a deadline deal — though his cheap minimum contract paradoxically might make him harder to trade. Kuminga came in and sparked an 8-0 run that featured two different and-ones from the young forward. Why was it that this guy couldn’t see the floor for a month? JK WINDMILL ALLEY-OOP 🤯 pic.twitter.com/yHpdjn4ejO— Warriors on NBCS (@NBCSWarriors) January 23, 2026 Kuminga had what initially looked like a cute moment with the Dubs up 43-39. He got fouled and while grimacing, temporarily borrowed the seat of a little girl to rest. He got up to drain both free throws, then left the game minutes later. Relieved to see him head for the locker room, the Mavericks went on a 10-0 run. For the second game in a row, the Warriors lit it up in the third quarter, scoring 39 points, with 13 coming from Curry and eight from Melton. The Warriors shot 16-for-24 and committed only a single turnover, while Marshall and Dubs-killer Brandon Williams kept Dallas close with a combined 18 points of their own. Moses Moody hit a big shot to cap a 13-4 run to start the quarter, and is now shooting 17-for-29 from three-point range in his last five games. Podz finds Moody for the open…

Warriors vs. Mavericks player grades: Steph Curry stars in loss

The Golden State Warriors lost their second game in a row on Thursday night, and unfortunately, it was distinctly different than their Tuesday loss to the Toronto Raptors. In that game, the Warriors played decently — you could even argue they played well — but an outlier shooting performance from the Canadians doomed the Dubs. But on Thursday, the Warriors lost 123-115 to the Dallas Mavericks because they simply…

On Steve Kerr giving the ‘thumbs up’ to Jonathan Kuminga’s rotation spot

The relationship may be “fractured beyond repair,” but the professionalism has clearly been maintained. At the 3:48 mark of the first quarter of the Golden State Warriors’ game against the Dallas Mavericks, the Amazon Prime broadcast cut toward Steve Kerr calling a play for Jonathan Kuminga, called “Thumb up.” Simply put, the play is a high pick-and-roll for the ball handler, with the name Kerr calls out playing the…

Warriors Jonathan Kuminga leaves game vs. Mavericks with knee soreness

The Jonathan Kuminga comeback feel good story has, unfortunately, hit a snag. Late in the second quarter of the Golden State Warriors road game against the Dallas Mavericks, Kuminga came up lame after a transition opportunity. He tried to walk it off, then signaled to the bench for a sub, and walked to the locker room. When the second half commenced, the Warriors announced that Kuminga had left knee soreness, and would not return to the game. After an absence of more than a month, Kuminga returned to the rotation on Tuesday night and was one of the few bright spots in the team’s blowout loss to the Toronto Raptors, scoring an efficient 20 points in just 21 minutes. He was fantastic in his short stint against the Mavs, scoring 10 points in just nine minutes, while shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line, with two steals. With Jimmy Butler III out for the season with an ACL tear, and with the trade deadline exactly two weeks away, Kuminga has a great opportunity in front of him, to either become a key part of the rotation once again, or make himself attractive to a team that might trade for him. Hopefully the knee ailment is really just soreness and not an injury, and he can get back on the court shortly.

How to watch Warriors vs. Mavericks

Coming off a 6–2 homestand, the Golden State Warriors head out on a four-game road trip beginning Thursday night against the Dallas Mavericks. Butler’s absence was felt immediately, as Golden State surrendered 41 points in the first quarter and spent the rest of the night playing from behind. Despite a few spirited runs in the second half, the game remained firmly in Toronto’s control with the team still figuring out how they plan to navigate the Butler injury. Draymond said the Warriors could win a championship last year at the All-Star break after acquiring Jimmy Butler — and now the tables have turned completely."Shit I don't know. We gotta go through it… we'll figure it out. Nature of the game we play. Injuries happen. But I… pic.twitter.com/VOmRCozHup— KNBR (@KNBR) January 21, 2026 What to watch for tonight: Golden State looks to bounce back Thursday night as they begin their road trip in Dallas. With Butler gone, the Warriors must find new ways to replace his all-around impact on the game, especially on the offensive end where he was averaging 20 points per game this season. On Tuesday, that responsibility fell to Jonathan Kuminga, who returned after 16 straight games listed as a DNP to score 20 points in just 21 minutes. Head coach Steve Kerr has consistently pointed to the lineup fit alongside Butler and Draymond Green as the reason for Kuminga’s extended absence, but with Butler sidelined, the door is now open for him to slide into a larger role. For now, this appears to be the Warriors’ solution, but it’s worth monitoring whether Kuminga playing is merely a short-term fix or part of a broader plan to keep him beyond the Feb. 5 trade deadline. Steve Kerr on Jonathan Kuminga:"I thought JK was really good and it's a great sign. With Jimmy out, obviously there's a hole at that spot on our roster. JK's gonna factor in here again and really pleased with the way he stayed ready." pic.twitter.com/Wdldt6YOAQ— KNBR (@KNBR) January 21, 2026 Enjoy the game Dub Nation. Warriors vs. Mavericks injury report: Anthony Davis out, Daniel Gafford doubtful

The Golden State Warriors are back in action tonight, and they’re headed to Texas to take on Klay Thompson, Cooper Flagg, and the Dallas Mavericks. It’s the Warriors first game on the road since January 5, and their first out-of-state game since New Year’s Eve. Both teams are missing some serious star talent. Here’s the full injury report. Warriors Out — Jimmy Butler III (right knee ACL tear) Sigh. It’s not fun writing it out, but I’ll be doing it a lot, as Butler will be sidelined for the rest of the year, and the start of next season following an ACL tear on Monday night. Out — Seth Curry (left sciatic nerve irritation) Curry should be re-evaluated soon, and hopefully can get back on the court before too long. The Warriors could use some extra scoring with Butler out. Questionable — Gary Payton II (right foot soreness) I wouldn’t be surprised if GPII sees a bigger role going forward, given the defense and athleticism that the team lost with Butler’s injury. Hopefully he’s good to go tonight. Mavericks Out — Anthony Davis (left finger sprain) Davis was linked to the Warriors a little bit before suffering yet another injury. Now that Butler — whose contract matches Davis’ — is out for a year, you can expect to at least see a little speculation that the teams might swap their injured stars on massive deals. I don’t think there’s much of a chance of it happening, though. Out — Kyrie Irving (left knee surgery) Like Butler, Irving has a torn ACL, which he sustained in March of 2025. It’s unclear when he’ll be back on the court. Out — Dereck Lively II (right foot surgery) After a standout rookie season in 2023-24, things have gone downhill for Lively. He was limited to 36 games last year, and didn’t show much improvement. And this year he suffered a foot injury after just seven games, and is out for the season. Out — Dante Exum (right knee surgery) Exum, unfortunately, saw his season end before it started. He hasn’t played this year and he won’t play this year, as he rehabs from knee surgery. Doubtful — Daniel Gafford (right ankle sprain) Gafford plays a critical role for the Mavs with Davis sidelined, but he’s had his own issues staying healthy. He’s missed the last three games, and 15 overall this year. Probable — Moussa Cissé (illness) Cissé went undrafted in June, but has filled in for the injury Davis and Gafford on a few occasions this year. He’s a very strong rebounder. Enjoy the game, Dub Nation. It tips off at 4:30 p.m. PT on Prime.
