Not again: Another Bayern Munich luminary injured while skiing in the Alps
The Alps, Europe’s highest and most extensive mountain range, is known for its picturesque scenery and being a prime location for skiing. For Bayern Munich, it’s a stark reminder of all the times that their men would fall victim to it. Add another one to that now because Lothar Matthäus has injured himself while skiing. “It was the last run on the last day of my vacation,” Lothar recounted (Bild via Tz). “The slope was icy and bumpy. I was already looking forward to lunch at the mountain hut – then I suddenly fell on my right side. I didn’t catch a bump properly, and my skis caught an edge. The problem was the ice; if there had been powder snow, nothing would probably have happened.” The 64-year-old former player, fresh off playing in the Legends Cup, was with his partner Theresa during that day and will undergo surgery. Famed Bayern club doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt was the first one to examine him before referring him to a shoulder specialist. This wouldn’t be the first time that an unfortunate incident in the Alps has befallen someone linked with Bayern. Back in December 2022, Manuel Neuer injured his leg while skiing which ruled him out for that season; Yann Sommer was signed as an emergency backup. Three months later, Julian Nagelsmann was out on holiday and went skiing…only to find out that Bayern had sacked him. At this point, anything untoward that happens in that mountain range should be called a complete and total mishalp.

Max Eberl admits there is still no update on Dayot Upamecano’s Bayern Munich contract situation as the wait drags on

Bayern Munich News: The aftermath of FC Bayern vs. Union Saint-Gilloise; Borussia Dortmund growing confident about Nico Schlotterbeck extension; and MORE!
Die Folgen: Bayern’s 2-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise (Bavarian Football Works) Bayern Munich won 2-0 over Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League, but it was not pretty. The Bavarians were lackluster in the victory, often looking out of synch offensively, and sloppy defensively. The game frustrated fans, but also left them relieved by the end of the match. As always, let’s begin with a look at the start XI: 🔴 𝗨𝗖𝗟 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 🔴Here’s how we lineup for #FCBUSG tonight ©️ pic.twitter.com/DmzgAXPppq— FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) January 21, 2026 Dayot Upamecano was absent with an illness, so Kim Min-jae stepped in for him. Meanwhile, Kompany continued to think outside the box as he start Joshua Kimmich in the central midfield, Tom Bischof at left-back, and Raphaël Guerreiro at right-back — robbing fans of seeing the midfield duo of Bischof and Aleksandar Pavlović. Yes, a minor inconvenience, but it is hard to argue with just about anything Kompany does (aside of starting Bischof at right-back like he did against RB Leipzig last weekend). Michael Olise was doing some dazzling dribbling early, but always held on just a bit too long. Kim picked up a yellow card in the 18th minute, which could have changed Kompany’s plan for later in the match. Bayern Munich was completely dominant, but not exactly going “balls to the wall” to score, which was a little odd. It was as if the squad was waiting for the perfect chance. Kimmich did not have a strong start to the match, but got better. Meanwhile, Aleksandar Pavlović was a passing machine (and even set a record). Bischof should get more minutes in the central midfield (broken record). In the 29th minute, Promise David beat the Tah and Guerreiro for a great header attempt, but Manuel Neuer was saved by his positioning. Otherwise, Bayern Munich would have been down 1-0. In general, Bayern Munich looked uninspired in the final third through 35 minutes. It did not get better for the rest of the half. Guerreiro swept in front of Kane to steal a header attempt and the Englishman did not appear to be thrilled with his teammate. There seemed to be a lack of chemistry between the wings and the outside-backs in this game. Karl was not effective. It was a Triple-U first half: Unmotivated, Uninspired, Unwatchable. It is not often we have seen Bayern Munich in a malaise under Kompany, but that is pretty much the best way to describe the first half of the match. Finally, in the 52nd minute, Olise hit an in-swinging corner from the right-side that was directly to the head of Kane, who put it home (Guerreiro was not there to jump in his way this time) for 1-0 lead. In the 53rd minute, Bayern Munich was awarded a penalty and Kane calmly hit it in for a 2-0 lead. Remember that yellow card that Kim received, well, it went full red in the 63rd minute after grabbing the arm of USG’s Raul Florucz. For Kim detractors, this was a combination of his worst traits — poor positioning, bad decisions, and being too aggressive (this time with his hands). You could really argue that USG’s David should have been assessed a red card for a foul on Michael Olise a few minutes later, but he was only given a yellow. To compensate for Kim’s absence, Alphonso Davies checked in for Guerreiro and Hiroki Itō stepped in for Karl in the 67th minute. Bayern Munich would be awarded another penalty in the 79th minute for a handball. Kane stepped to the spot and proceeded to hit the crossbar. It was just that kind of game. In the 83rd minute, Diaz sent Olise a perfect ball across the box and from point-blank range, Olise went #FullComan (or #FullSané if you prefer) and sent his shot 20 rows deep. The Frenchman almost had to intentionally hit it so poorly. Overall, this was not a banner effort for a Bayern Munich group that was, well, due for a stinker. Better now than in the latter stages of this competition, eh? In the end, Bayern Munich got the victory, though it surely was not anything to write home about. Onward and…

Former Bayern Munich footballer Lucas Hernandez accused of human trafficking
According to a report by Paris Match, former Bayern Munich footballer Lucas Hernandez and his partner have been accused of human trafficking and violation of labor laws, per a complaint filed by a Colombian family. Between September 2024 and November 2025, the couple and their three children were allegedly employed for excessively long hours without legal status. How it started Per the report, the story began in 2024, when Marie (the daughter of the family) was contacted by Hernandez’s partner Victoria Triay. “We met in Colombia,” she said. “She [Victoria] had come to have surgery, and I was her nurse. That’s where she kept in touch with me. Then she contacted me again to ask me to come work with them. She promised she would give me legal documents within six months so I would be in compliance and could travel with them anywhere in the world. I accepted because it excited me and because she promised to help me with the paperwork.” However, when Marie arrived in France to take up their duties with the Hernandezes, the paperwork still hadn’t been prepared. Then, a few months later, the French defender and his partner apparently explained to her that they needed more staff — particularly for security. Marie thus brought over her mother, father, and two brothers from Colombia, with promises of a good quality of life and legal status in France. The scheme Marie and her mother, Jeanne, were employed as housekeepers. Marie worked 24 hours a day, from Monday to Sunday, for a salary of 2,000 euros. Jeanne worked for 12 hours a day, from 9am to 9pm, Monday to Sunday, for the same pay. Marie’s duties mainly consisted of general housework as well as taking care of the Hernandez couple’s 5-year-old daughter. She was also responsible for grocery shopping and arranging house parties. She would even accompany Victoria Triay to the VIP boxes at Paris Saint-Germain games, and went with the couple on their vacations (to take care of their children). The men of the family — the father and two sons — were allegedly employed as security guards on the property. One of the sons was a minor at the time. The men would work up to 72 to 84 hours a week for little pay (between 3,000 and 1,000 euros) and no days off or vacations. The hiring of the five employees was not subject to any official declaration, whether social security or tax. The family were paid in cash without any pay slips. In February 2025, they were made to sign a confidentiality agreement, while employment contracts still hadn’t been drawn up. The fallout According to the family’s lawyer, Marie and her mother were fired by Victoria Triay in October 2025 after a violent argument at the house. After this, Lucas Hernandez tried to have employment contracts finally drawn up, after the pair had been fired, in an attempt to normalize the situation. According to the complaint filed by the family, the men were forced to carry weapons on their person to ensure the safety of the Hernandez couple. They even foiled a burglary attempt in 2024, where Marie had to confront the burglars with a kitchen knife while her father shot his weapon to make them flee. Marie details abuse by the Hernandez family. “When I worked for them, they told me: ‘If you leave, you’ll be nothing, you won’t find another job.’ In the last few days, they were yelling at me: ‘You can’t leave, you have to stay here, your schedule is 24/7 and I’m paying you for it.” When she and her mother were fired, they were threatened with being sent back to Colombia. The case has apparently left the family with deep psychological scars. The reply “Lucas Hernandez has only contributed to maintaining this family in a deplorable economic and social situation, sometimes with an attitude that borders on modern-day slavery,” said lawyer Lola Dubois. Hernandez’s agent indicated that the couple were “completely taken aback” by the allegations and completely unaware of the complaint. This would not be the first time Lucas…
