Bruins Linked to West Coast Scoring Winger: Insider
The Boston Bruins could be among the teams looking to land one of the most talked-about names on the trade block this season.During the November 29 edition of Saturday Headlines, insider Elliotte Friedman discussed the future of Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood. Sherwood, an impending UFA, has been among the names tossed around as potential trade candidates this season.According to Friedman, the Bruins are one of the teams that have kicked the tires on Sherwood. The 30-year-old has 12 goals in 25 games for an underperforming Canucks’ club. The notable insider mentioned several clubs, with the Bruins being the most intriguing team on the list.Boston is in the midst of a solid bounce-back season. So, it would make sense for GM Don Sweeney to look into pulling off a trade to bolster the club’s scoring. Beyond the usual suspects, the Bruins have had trouble scoring goals.Sherwood is in the final year of a two-year contract, carrying a $1.5 million cap hit. That’s a highly palatable cap hit. Unlike other possible options on the trade market, the Bruins wouldn’t have trouble fitting Sherwood’s cap hit.As for the likelihood of actually getting a deal done, there’s nothing imminent. That could change as the Canucks’ season is circling the drain. December could be the month that determines what path Vancouver takes.Ultimately, the Canucks are “open for business.” So, that’s a situation that a team like the Bruins can take advantage of. A deal would largely depend on what the Canucks want to get back for a player like Sherwood. How Sherwood Fits into Bruins LineupSherwood could make an interesting fit on the Bruins’ top line. The club has been experimenting with different options there. At the moment, the top line could look solid with Elias Lindholm, David Pastrnak, and Kiefer Sherwood. That would allow Marco Sturm to deploy Pavel Zacha with Casey Mittelstadt and Morgan Geekie on the second line. But with Geekie becoming the Bruins’ top goalscorer this season, keeping Geekie on the top line could move Sherwood to the second line with Zacha and Mittelstadt. Most importantly, adding Sherwood offers the Bruins plenty of flexibility. For instance, Pastrnak is currently day-to-day with a mild injury. Having Sherwood in the lineup could offset the absence of Pastrnak in the top six. With a full, healthy lineup, the top six could become even more potent and effective.Boston Must Avoid Overpaying for SherwoodKiefer Sherwood could be a good piece for the Bruins. But the club must avoid overpaying. The Canucks will likely want an arm and a leg for the impending UFA. But that could just be their asking price. It would be wise for Don Sweeney to take a deep breath and see how the situation unfolds. If other teams are desperate enough to pay, well, let them pay up. In the meantime, Boston would do well to avoid turning over potentially valuable assets for a player who may or may not remain with the team. The Bruins have put together a decent season as it is. While adding Sherwood would be a boost, it’s not worth paying more than they should. Like Heavy Sports's content? Be sure to follow us. Rangers’ Long-Term Injury to Star Blueliner Could be Catastrophic
The New York Rangers are on the verge of pushing the panic button. The Blueshirts lost their top defenseman during Saturday’s loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Madison Square Garden.Adam Fox sustained what seemed like a shoulder injury during the third period. Fox played the puck along the boards, behind the Rangers’ net. He took a nasty crunch from Brandon Hagel, leaving him on the ice in pain. The replay showed how Fox’s left shoulder absorbed most of the impact up against the glass. Here’s a look at the play, as shared by The Athletic’s Vince Mercogliano: Here’s the play where Fox got hurt. Looks like that left arm took the brunt of it. He did not return. #NYR pic.twitter.com/ZHu0ykVH9z — Vince Z. Mercogliano (@vzmercogliano) November 29, 2025 Fox left the game after playing 16:27 over 18 shifts. He had just one shot on goal while recording an assist.Following the game, Rangers coach Mike Sullivan told the media that Fox was still under evaluation, as SNY reported. It might be too early to tell what, if anything, could have happened to Fox. The injury could range from a sore shoulder to a potentially devastating situation. Of course, that’s all speculation at this point. There could be more news coming Sunday or into next week. Fox has played 27 games this season, registering three goals and 23 assists for 26 points. He’s a former Norris Trophy winner and the engine leading the club from the Rangers’ blue line.If Fox misses time, the Rangers will need to shuffle their defense corps to accommodate for Fox’s absence.Long-Term Injury to Fox Could Be Catastrophic for RangersLosing Adam Fox could be catastrophic for the Rangers. Beyond missing Fox’s production, the psychological impact of losing a key piece is not easy to overcome. So, the team could suffer much more beyond the evident on-ice production. The Rangers would be playing without a crucial leader. That’s why any prolonged absence by Fox would necessitate the club rallying around their current leadership group. Veterans led by captain J.T. Miller will need to keep pushing as the playoffs remain within striking distance. But panic could set in as the Rangers may feel their season slipping away. But first things first. The team must learn of Fox’s potential injury before pushing the button. Hopefully, the situation may be nothing more than just a massive scare.Blueshirts Don’t Have Many Options to Replace FoxThe devastating reality of losing Adam Fox is that the Rangers don’t really have anyone to replace him. He’s a top-pair, right-shot defenseman. Those don’t come by very often in the NHL. In his absence, there really isn’t anyone who can make up for his missed offensive production. So, the Rangers will rely on Will Borgen and Scott Morrow to step up on the right side. Also, Braden Schneider can play both sides. Although the likeliest replacement for Fox would be Borgen on the top pairing with Vladislav Gavrikov. The Blueshirts’ flat performance against the Lightning should raise some concerns. The Rangers remain stuck in the bottom portion of the Metro Division, though they are just one point off the two wild card spots in the Eastern Conference. Like Heavy Sports's content?
