The Buffalo Bills season ended in familiar fashion this past weekend — losing to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs. As a result, the team fired longtime head coach Sean McDermott, leaving an opening for a new head-man-in-charge in Western New York. While the team has begun the search for a new head coach, a familiar name has popped up on their radar — Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. According to a social media post from NFL Insider for The Athletic, Dianna Russini, on Wednesday morning, Miami’s defensive coordinator for the last two seasons will get a chance at a promotion by interviewing for the Bills’ opening in the near future. Weaver previously was employed as the Bills’ defensive line coach for one season in 2013. While remaining a strong head coaching candidate for both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the team that drafted him in the 2002 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens, working with one of the top quarterbacks in the National Football League in Josh Allen could prove to be a tempting scenario for Weaver. As a reminder, if Weaver were to earn a head coaching gig this offseason, the Dolphins would be in line for two compensatory third round selections — one in 2026 and one in 2027 — as part of the league’s initiative to reward teams for employing minorities in coveted positions within organizations.
