Surging Bruins standing pat for now

Another day passed and another trade target to which the Bruins had been linked to is off the table. After right-shot defenseman Rasmus Andersson went from Calgary to Vegas on Sunday, middle-six forward Keifer Sherwood was traded from Vancouver to San Jose on Monday. Either player would have helped the B’s, especially Andersson, and it sure sounds like they took a healthy cut at landing him. But considering what it…

Ex-WBZ anchor Kate Merrill pushes back at Boston station trying to toss her claims in ‘reverse discrimination’ lawsuit

Former WBZ anchor Kate Merrill is pushing back at the Boston station for trying to toss portions of her “reverse discrimination” lawsuit. Merrill — who left the media outlet under a cloud of mystery — is suing WBZ, CBS and others for racial and gender discrimination. She claims that she was illegally pushed out from the station after more than 20 years as WBZ advanced “a DEI agenda.” A couple months ago, WBZ and the…

Celtics Get Major Update on Payton Pritchard Before Pistons Showdown

The Boston Celtics have moved into the No. 2 spot in the Eastern Conference thanks to their strong recent play–most notably a run of 11 wins in 15 games going back to December 19. But despite that progress they remain comfortably behind the Detroit Pistons, the top team in the conference, which established an East lead thanks to a 15-2 start and has held firm since. The Pistons had gone through a dip in performance…

Former Dolphins Coach Hired by Chiefs

Following a 7-10 season, the Miami Dolphins parted ways with head coach Mike McDaniel after four seasons at the helm. McDaniel led the Dolphins to a 35-33 record. McDaniel’s tenure in Miami started off strong as they made the postseason in his first two seasons. However, the Dolphins regressed in their next two seasons as they ended below .500 on both occasions as the team failed to make the postseason. Now, the Dolphins have begun a new era modeled after the Green Bay Packers. The Dolphins hired former Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan as their new general manager, and hired former Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as their new head coach. The Packers have been a model NFL franchise, making the postseason in the past two seasons. Miami will try and replicate their success.Previously, the Dolphins tried to replicate the success of the New England Patriots. Entering the 2019 season, Miami made Chris Grier their highest-ranking front office member. Grier possessed a background working as a scout for the Patriots. Grier then hired Brian Flores as the team’s new head coach, who was the Patriots’ linebackers coach. Flores then hired Chad O’Shea as his offensive coordinator; he had previously been the Patriots wide receivers coach. Replicating New England’s success failed, but the Dolphins will hope the right foundational pieces are now in store.Former Dolphins Coach Hired by Chiefs View this post on Instagram While the Dolphins’ 2019 rebuild based on the Patriots model failed, some of the coaches Miami hired are still prominent figures in the NFL. Brian Flores has become one of the league’s best defensive coordinators, and has drawn interviews for head coaching jobs. Now, another member of the Dolphins coaching staff from 2019 has made headlines.Former Dolphins offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea has been hired by the Kansas City Chiefs as their wide receivers coach. O’Shea spent just one season with the Dolphins as he was fired following the 2019 season. Despite the offense averaging 26.7 points per game in O’Shea’s final seven games with the Dolphins, the offense was reportedly too complex. O’Shea tried to run a Patriots-style offense, but Miami’s young roster in 2019 struggled to execute the complex offense. Prior to the 2019 season, O’Shea had never called plays.Miami Dolphins’ Offensive Staff QuestionsFollowing Hafley’s announcement as the team’s new head coach, the Dolphins will have to wait and see the kind of staff he assembles. Hafley has a defensive background, as he served the previous two seasons as a defensive coordinator. That means the playcaller for the Dolphins offense remains to be seen. Hafley could follow a similar approach to Flores in 2019 and bring someone over from Green Bay. The potential for an inexperienced offensive coordinator struggling in his first year as a play caller is a real possibility, as evidenced by O’Shea’s struggles with the Dolphins. However, there have been instances of coaches having success in their first turn as playcallers. Mike McDaniel had not called plays prior to being the Dolphins’ head coach, and he led the Dolphins to the third-best offense in the NFL in points per game in 2023. Like Heavy Sports's content? Jets Were Rejected by Coaches Amid DC Search, Says Insider

The New York Jets released their interview list for the vacant defensive coordinator job.Candidly, the list lacked sizzle.Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic explained why head coach Aaron Glenn’s list lacked “household names.”“Other candidates the Jets looked into weren’t interested in the job. That’s what Glenn is up against as he attempts to rebuild his coaching staff, especially on the defensive side: This is not…

Embiid, George Questionable as 76ers Open Back-to-Back vs Pacers

The Philadelphia 76ers’ injury report ahead of Monday night’s home matchup against the Indiana Pacers raises familiar questions, not new concerns. Both Joel Embiid and Paul George are listed as questionable due to left knee injury management. The designation reflects caution more than alarm, especially given the schedule context. Monday’s game opens a back-to-back, with the Phoenix Suns visiting Wells Fargo…

Former Browns Coach Lands New Job with Chiefs After Kevin Stefanski Firing

After another disappointing season, the Cleveland Browns are making changes. In the wake of a 4-13 campaign, head coach Kevin Stefanski has lost his job, with the Atlanta Falcons quickly swooping in to hire him. Since then, the Browns have launched yet another head coaching search, but before they found a new leader, they ended up losing another member of their coaching staff.Typically, whenever a head coach is fired, that forces the rest of their staff to scramble to find another job, as the incoming coach will likely bring in their own guys to make up their coaching staff. Wide receivers coach Chad O’Shea got ahead of the curve, as reports indicate he has landed a new gig with Stefanski no longer being in charge of Cleveland.Chad O’Shea Latches on with Chiefs After Kevin Stefanski’s Firing The Chiefs are hiring Chad O’Shea as their wide receivers coach, per source. O’Shea got into the NFL as a volunteer assistant with Kansas City in 2003. Over two decades later, he’s back as Andy Reid remodels his offensive staff. pic.twitter.com/BW7koHxbi3 — Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 19, 2026 Despite winning Coach of the Year twice during his time with the Browns, a poor 2025 campaign was enough to cost Stefanski his job. While he’s landed with the Falcons as noted above, that has left the rest of his prior staff in limbo. Some will join him in Atlanta, some will stay in Cleveland, and some will have to latch on elsewhere. For O’Shea, the third option on that list appears to be the answer. After spending 10 years working as the New England Patriots‘ wide receivers coach, O’Shea worked as the Miami Dolphins’ offensive coordinator for one year in 2019 before finding his way to the Browns. Since 2020, O’Shea has worked as the team’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. With Stefanski gone, though, there’s no guarantee that O’Shea will have a job in Cleveland next year. As a result, he began exploring other opportunities across the league, and he has landed with the Kansas City Chiefs, who he previously spent three seasons with from 2003 to 2005. Similar to his previous stints, O’Shea will be working as the team’s new wide receivers coach.“The Chiefs are hiring Chad O’Shea as their wide receivers coach, per source,” Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported in a post on X. “O’Shea got into the NFL as a volunteer assistant with Kansas City in 2003. Over two decades later, he’s back as Andy Reid remodels his offensive staff.”Browns Hoping to Find New Head Coach Soon GettyThe Browns have lost Chad O’Shea to the Chiefs after firing Kevin Stefanski Finding a new head coach isn’t exactly an easy process for NFL teams, but the Browns may need to act with a sense of urgency in the wake of O’Shea’s departure. Other coaches could be on the move soon, too, and if they don’t act quickly enough, their new head coach may have a difficult time when it comes to filling out their staff. To this point, it remains to be seen which way Cleveland is leaning when it comes to its head coach search. Several candidates have earned second interviews with the team, but it’s tough to tell who is the frontrunner at this stage of the game. As a result, this week will be important for the Browns as they attempt to rebuild their coaching staff in the wake of Stefanski’s departure. Like Heavy Sports's content? Be sure to follow us.
