Packers to interview Eagles coordinator Christian Parker for defensive coordinator

Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator Interview Tracker 2026
With former defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley off coaching the Miami Dolphins, the biggest move that the Green Bay Packers will make this offseason will probably be who they replace Hafley with. In talking to those in the know in the coaching and coaching representation space, two names have come up consistently (throughout the year), mostly because of convenience: defensive line coach/run game coordinator Demarcus Covington and pass game coordinator Derrick Ansley, two internal candidates who came to Green Bay after previous stints as defensive coordinators in the NFL. Along with Hafley, both Covington and Ansley each have six years of non-Packers experience as on-field coaches in the NFL, the most on the staff outside of head coach Matt LaFleur and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia. Covington has received some defensive coordinator interest from other clubs in 2026, but the same hasn’t been said of Ansley, at least yet. For what it’s worth, the same people who believe that Covington and Ansley could be defensive coordinator candidates in Green Bay also believe that Hafley could bring one with him at his next gig, too. Another name to know, from the Hafley end, is Jacksonville Jaguars’ linebackers coach Tem Lukabu, who was Hafley’s defensive coordinator from 2020 to 2022. Sean Duggan, the Packers’ current linebackers coach, was a linebackers coach under Lukabu and was one of two co-defensive coordinators who were promoted once Lukabu left for the NFL. At this point, it’s unclear whether Hafley, who coached in the booth on gamedays for Green Bay, will be a sideline play-caller for the Dolphins or if he will simply be a “CEO” style head coach. Now that the Hafley talk is over, let’s steer it back to the Packers. Other teams are going to be in the defensive coordinator market, but the teams that are hitting it the most aggressively, in terms of interviews, right now are the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets. The Washington Commanders are also poking around, but their search is going much more slowly than the Cowboys and Jets, at least on Monday, January 19th. Other candidates might become available down the line (teams can block lateral moves if coaches are under contract), but at least one, the Atlanta Falcons’ Jeff Ulbrich, has been taken off the board. Ulbrich will be staying with the Falcons under new head coach Kevin Stefanski. He had an interview for the Dallas Cowboys’ opening blocked by the Falcons. A name brought up a lot by Packers fans is Raheem Morris, because of his close ties with LaFleur, but there’s some thought that he might just pivot to television (he has fans in the media) or could take a year off. Remember, when coaches are fired, their remaining salaries are still guaranteed. Morris might not be in a hurry to take a job, and he hasn’t scheduled an interview for defensive coordinator yet. Other candidates who might become available include Miami’s Anthony Weaver, Baltimore’s Zach Orr, Cleveland’s Jim Schwartz, Tennessee’s Dennard Wilson and Las Vegas’ Patrick Graham, sitting defensive coordinators who are receiving head coaching interviews right now, but whose head coaches were fired. With all that being said, here’s a list of every coach who, so far, has at least scheduled an NFL defensive coordinator interview this cycle. We’ll also note which team(s) they interviewed with and if they have prior ties to the Packers. Aaron Whitecotton, Dallas Cowboys, defensive line coach Dallas Cowboys Whitecotton actually interviewed for the Packers for their defensive line vacancy last offseason, a job that ultimately went to Covington. Brian Flores, Minnesota Vikings, defensive coordinator Dallas Cowboys Washington Commanders Flores has no ties to Green Bay as a defensive coordinator candidate, but he was interviewed for the 2019 head coaching opening that led to the hiring of LaFleur. Charlie Bullen, New York Giants, interim defensive coordinator Dallas Cowboys Chris Harris, New York Jets, interim defensive…

Lions hire offensive coordinator Drew Petzing
One of the first coordinators to be hired this cycle was not a particularly hot name on the market. Everyone and their mother wants former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel to call offensive plays for their team next year, but that enthusiasm never built around Drew Petzing, who, like head coach Jonathan Gannon, was fired from the Arizona Cardinals after this season. Petzing is a 38-year-old who had the offensive coordinator title for the Cardinals before signing with the Lions today. Before then, he had worked with Kevin Stefanski with both the Minnesota Vikings and the Cleveland Browns. Here are some key stats from Petzing’s time in Arizona (the higher ranked, the better for all stats). Passing Game (2023-2025) Pass attempts: 6th Pass yards: 19th Completion percentage: 11th Touchdown percentage: 22nd Interception percentage: 12th Sack rate: 18th Yards per attempt: 25th Yards per completion: 29th Adjusted net yards per attempt (ANY/A): 25th In general, the Cardinals threw a lot of short passes and avoided interceptions at a slightly above-average rate, but were only more efficient (ANY/A) than the Browns, Jets, Raiders, Panthers, Titans, Giants and Bears through the air under Petzing’s leadership in Arizona. Certainly nothing to write home about. Running Game (2023-2025) Run attempts: 25th Rushing yards: 9th Rushing yards per attempt: 2nd Rushing touchdowns: 17th By far, the best stat on Petzing’s resume is his rushing yards per attempt number. With that being said, though, that also deserves some context. Quarterback Kyler Murray, a former first overall pick, ran the ball 151 times for 989 yards and a 6.5 yards per carry mark under Petzing. That’s substantially higher than the only running back who got more carries than Murray during Petzing’s time in Arizona (James Conner, 4.7) and the first back below Murray’s rush attempts (Michael Carter, 4.1). When you just count running back carries, here’s what the NFL yards per carry averages have looked like since 2023: Ravens: 5.2 Lions: 4.9 Dolphins: 4.8 Bills: 4.7 Eagles: 4.7 Cardinals: 4.6 49ers: 4.5 Colts: 4.5 Falcons: 4.5 Rams: 4.5 Commanders: 4.5 Steelers: 4.3 Jets: 4.3 Bears: 4.3 Cowboys: 4.2 Packers: 4.2 Titans: 4.2 Vikings: 4.2 Seahawks: 4.2 Broncos: 4.2 Bengals: 4.2 Panthers: 4.2 Patriots: 4.1 Buccaneers: 4.1 Texans: 4.0 Jaguars: 3.9 Giants: 3.9 Chargers: 3.9 Chiefs: 3.8 Browns: 3.8 Saints: 3.7 Raiders: 3.7 This hiring, to me, signals that finding ways to run the football is the trait that the Lions looked for the most out of a potential offensive coordinator candidate. Petzing’s backs have put up good production, but there was still always the threat that mobile quarterback Kyler Murray could have pulled the ball on any play, something that won’t be a factor when Jared Goff is under center for Detroit. It’s a bit of an odd fit and an odd hire for the Lions. We’ll just have to see how it works out for them down the line. Detroit had to do something, though, as head coach Dan Campbell began calling offensive plays for the team in Week 10 of last season after replacing Ben Johnson, who left to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears, with John Morton, who was fired in January after just one year after being named offensive coordinator.
